Fire in Trung Kinh: 2 patients were discharged from the hospital, the old woman is still in critical condition

Regarding the fire at the hostel (No. 1, Lane 43/98/31, Trung Kinh Street, Trung Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi), the health of the 84-year-old woman is still in a complicated condition. And the couple entrenched in the bathroom was discharged from the hospital.

On the afternoon of June 5, Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen, Director of the Anti-Poison Center - Bach Mai Hospital, said that after 10 days of care and treatment, two patients in the fire that killed 14 people in Hanoi had just been discharged from the hospital.

These two patients are a couple, a 30-year-old wife, a teacher, from Hoa Binh, and a 35-year-old husband, an office worker, from Phu Tho. They were transferred from the Transport Hospital to Bach Mai on the afternoon of May 24 with the diagnosis: respiratory burns caused by toxic gases, inhalation of coal dust, inhibition of the heart muscle, monitoring of CO poisoning.

Both patients were treated with oxygen, respiratory care to remove phlegm, bronchoscopy, bronchial lavage, and antibiotic maintenance. In addition, the patients were also treated with hyperbaric oxygen 8 times to prevent late psychiatric and neurological complications.

Sharing about these two cases, Dr. Nguyen said: "After 10 days of care and treatment, the patient recovered well and was discharged from the hospital. At the same time, they are also scheduled to be examined again after 20 days."

During the fire, when they saw that they could not get out, the couple went to the entrenched bathroom. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished quite quickly, when the fire, toxic smoke, and high-temperature air did not enter the place where the young couple was looking for a way to live. About 1 hour after the fire started, seeing that it was safe outside and there was the sound of rescuers, the couple walked outside and were transported to a safe place.

Regarding the health of the elderly patient and the most severe case, Bach Mai Hospital said that the condition of the elderly woman is still very severe, on mechanical ventilation, continuous high fever, cerebral infarction damage, microvascular hemorrhage in both hemispheres of the brain.

Previously, the 84-year-old woman was rescued from the fire and taken to the Transport Hospital in an agitated state, with consciousness disorders, skin burns, respiratory burns, pneumonia, and respiratory failure. The patient had difficulty breathing in the larynx, inhalation of a lot of coal dust, metabolic acidosis, and myocardial damage.

At dawn on May 24, the hostel at address No. 1, Alley 31, Alley 98, Lane 43 Trung Kinh Street caught fire, causing 14 people not to survive, 3 people were injured.

The house where the fire occurred is located deep in a small alley, about 200 m from Trung Kinh street. The scale of the house includes 2 zones, including 1 5-storey house and 1 3-storey block, each floor has 4 rooms, open corridor in front.

The house is built with an area of about 150 m2 out of the total construction land area of 205 m2, the remaining area of about 55 m2 is an empty yard arranged for motorbikes, bicycles, and electric bicycles.

After the catastrophic fire occurred, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. Hanoi has asked the People's Committees of districts, towns and districts to proactively establish working groups to review and inspect 100% of hostel establishments in the area.
