Fire of 6-storey house in Hanoi: Firefighters exhausted extinguishing fire, 3 trapped victims died

The fire at a 6-storey house early in the morning in Tho Quan alley, Dong Da, Hanoi killed 3 people on the morning of July 8. At the same time, many soldiers of the Fire and Rescue Police got cramps, burns... after 5 hours of trying to put out the fire.

At 5:22 am this morning (July 8), a fire broke out at a 6-storey house at No. 12, Tho Quan alley, Tho Quan ward, Dong Da district.

After receiving the news, the Fire and Rescue Police Team, the Police of Dong Da District, Hai Ba Trung; The Fire and Rescue Police Team of Area 2 dispatched 8 fire engines and dozens of soldiers to the scene to put out the fire and search for people trapped.

Because the area where the fire occurred is a house combined with business services (pedicure, manicure), it is a tubular house, 6 floors high, an area of about 60m2, reinforced concrete structure located in a small alley, so Fire truck inaccessible. The functional force had to pull the rope from Kham Thien street to the inside to supply water to fight the fire. The house has only one facade with a glass window with an iron frame, the police had to break the window to access and find the victim.

By 7:12 am on the same day, the fire was basically extinguished. The area where the fire occurred was sealed off. Two ambulances and many medical staff were dispatched to the scene.

Talking to reporters at the scene, Mr. Le Trung V. (a neighbor with the victim's family) said that at the time of the fire, there were only two children, 11 and 13 years old, and their 19-year-old cousin inside the 6-storey house. When they are in Hung Yen, they are at home, while their parents are going to Vinh. After receiving the bad news, they are rushing back to Hanoi.

As noted by reporters, at 10am, 3 ambulances were brought to the scene. 15 minutes later, an ambulance took the victim's body away from the scene.

At 11 am of the same day, the ambulance carrying the third victim who died left the scene. The identities of the victims include: grandchild NQM (SN 2010), grandchild NPU (SN 2012) and sister DTD (SN 2004). The fire destroyed household appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, tables and chairs...

At the time of the fire, the Fire and Rescue Police force deployed 3 mobile gas filling stations and dozens of oxygen tanks so that the firefighters could have enough oxygen inside the house.

Corporal Nguyen Duc Anh, a member of the Fire and Rescue Police Department of the Area 2 Fire and Rescue Team (Fire and Rescue Police Department, Hanoi Police), said that the house contained a lot of nail polish chemicals, so when it caught fire, toxic gas. "We brought the oxygen tank in for 15 minutes, but we had to change people because it was difficult to breathe. One policeman injured his shoulder due to falling obstacles," he said.

By 7:37 a.m. on the same day, the fire was basically extinguished, but the inside of the house where the fire broke out was still filled with smoke. Firefighters are trying to cool the fire and search for trapped victims. More than 3 hours later, the first victim was taken outside by the authorities.

According to soldier Nguyen Duc Thuan, due to the heat of the fire, the tiles on the stairs were peeling and the railing fell, so when the firemen stepped on it, they collapsed, causing a fall.

"Due to the slip that made me fall on my back, the gas tank weighing about 10kg hit my shoulder and back, so it was very painful," soldier Nguyen Duc Thuan shared.

Immediately after receiving information about the fire, the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee directed the City Police to focus on fire fighting, rescue; Investigate the cause of the fire.

At the same time, the Chairman of the City People's Committee directed the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the People's Committee of Dong Da District to urgently visit the victims' families and organize remedial measures.

Tho Quan Alley is about 600 m long, 5-9 m wide, connecting Trung Phung street to Kham Thien street, there are many offices of Dong Da district so it is crowded.

Recently, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, there have been many tube house fires (small and narrow, with only one facade) causing many deaths. Most recently, a house fire in Thanh Cong street, Ha Dong district killed four grandparents.
