On the afternoon of August 21, D.TL (born in 2018, in Khay Dao village, Lam Giang commune, Van Yen district) - the child who got lost in the forest nearly 5 days ago was found about 6km from the missing location.
Currently, the child is being monitored and cared for by his parents at the Lam Giang Commune Health Center to ensure his health before returning home. According to medical staff, when he was first admitted, Lam was still confused, worried and scared; his physical condition was weak due to not having enough food for many days, and he had many mosquito bites on his body.
After seeing the child's parents, Mr. Dang Van Nhe and Ms. Ly Thi Phai, L.'s mental state gradually stabilized. Her health parameters were normal. In the coming time, the unit recommends that the family pay attention to care and nutrition to improve the child's health.
Here, through the story of the child and his family, during the days he was lost in the forest, he was very worried and scared. Because he could not determine the direction, he kept going into the forest, then got lost in the hills.
During those days, when I was hungry, I would eat leaves and wild fruits. When I was thirsty, I would go to the stream to drink. At night, I would sleep rough. Because I lived in the mountains, I could distinguish some types of trees and leaves that could be eaten.
Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Ly Van Nang (52 years old, in Bo village, Lang Thip commune, Van Yen district) - the person who found D.VL said that on the morning of the same day, he and 6 other people in the village went to clear the family's cinnamon field in the forest.
Before leaving, Mr. Nang and everyone brought rice balls to eat conveniently, so they didn't have to travel a long distance to get home.
"At around 11:30, while everyone else and I were resting and having lunch, someone in the group went to the restroom about 200m from the resting point and ran back in panic, saying he heard a child crying and screaming.
Everyone was very confused at that time, so they told me to quickly stand up and check the situation. Then, I approached the cassava hill and I heard the sound of a child crying. When I got closer, I discovered a little boy wearing red clothes sitting in the cassava bushes," Mr. Nang said.
According to Mr. Nang, at the time of discovery, L. said that he had been lost in the forest for 4-5 days and had not eaten or drunk anything.
"I'm so tired, I can't stand up, please carry me up," L. told Mr. Nang when he was found.
Mr. Nang said that he then carried L. back to the resting area on the cinnamon hill, got bread, milk and rice for the boy to eat and drink.
"After eating, the child told me that he had been lost for several days. When he got lost, he could not find his way home, and the more he walked, the more he could not find a way out.
After finding the baby, I called the local authorities, and everyone confirmed the information and then informed the baby's parents to come pick him up at the foot of the cinnamon hill," Mr. Nang said.
The 52-year-old man also shared that he had never encountered such a situation. Mr. Nang also said that the child's survival for 4 days lost in the forest was truly a miracle.
Speaking further with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Ban Van Canh, Military Command of Lang Thip commune said that on the morning of August 21, Mr. Ly Van Nang (in Bo village, Lang Thip commune) went into the forest to work on the fields and heard the sound of a child crying in the cassava hill.
Discovering a boy suspected to be a lost child being searched for by many forces, Mr. Nang immediately contacted the local authorities to inform them about L.'s situation.
"The cassava hill area where the missing child L. was found is about 10km from the Lang Thip Commune People's Committee headquarters. This is an area deep in the mountains. At the scene, the authorities determined that child L. was exhausted due to hunger and thirst.
Previously, at noon on August 17, Dang Tien Lam and his family went to celebrate the 15th day of the 7th lunar month at a relative's house in the same village. In the afternoon, Lam and 9 other relatives went to the other side of the stream near their house to play. While his brothers and sisters were busy picking wild xoan fruit, Lam turned to a nearby cassava plantation and disappeared.
Over the past 5 days, each day the locality mobilized over 150 people including police, military, youth, women, veterans from the commune to the village, and clan members, divided into many teams and groups in different directions to search for the lost child in the forest and contacted neighboring localities for support.
