On September 16, Mr. Tong Gia Cong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Hoi commune (Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province) confirmed to reporters that at around 10:00 a.m. on September 15, Mr. Tran Dong - Head of Van Hoi commune police passed away at the agency's office.
Immediately after the incident, the unit reported it to superiors. "The incident was investigated by Yen Bai Provincial Police to clarify the cause," said the Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Hoi Commune.
It is known that after helping people prevent landslides, Major Tran Dong returned to his office to rest. However, because the commune police chief was too tired, he collapsed and died later.
The leader of Van Hoi commune said that for several days, comrade Dong went to reinforce the people, waded through water, and assisted in evacuating people from the disaster-affected areas. Everyone was exhausted, but he did not complain. He still joined the soldiers and the people in preventing landslides.
Regarding the incident, VTC News reported that Major Tran Dong's family situation is very difficult, his wife is a teacher, he has 2 children, one in 5th grade and one 3 years old. Major Tran Dong does not have his own house, the whole family is living with his wife's family on Thanh Nien Street, Co Phuc town, Tran Yen district.
According to Major Tran Dong's wife, a few days ago, Major Tran Dong came home to clean the house, not complaining about being tired at all, just working all the time. "On Saturday, I went to work at the office. Around noon, I received the shocking news that I couldn't believe he had passed away. My little boy was always attached to his father, always calling him dad. He never scolded his wife and children, only occasionally shouted loudly for fun," Major Tran Dong's wife said sadly.
At this time, the street where his family lives is still flooded, without electricity or water, and the agency cannot bring Major Dong here to complete the burial procedures. The unit decided to bring Major Dong back to his parents' family in Hung Khanh commune, Tran Yen district. "The sad thing is that Major Tran Dong's father has just passed away for 69 days," Colonel Le Thi Thanh Hang informed.
According to Colonel Hang, Yen Bai Provincial Police will report and ask for the opinion of the Ministry of Public Security to have a suitable plan to consider whether Major Dong is eligible to be promoted to military rank and proposed as a martyr or not because this is not a case of sacrifice while on duty but died in the office.
On the morning of September 16, the leaders of Yen Bai Provincial Police led by Colonel Le Viet Thang, Director of the Provincial Police, visited and expressed condolences to the family of comrade Tran Dong.
During the disaster prevention and recovery period of storm No. 3, Van Hoi commune did not suffer any human casualties, but some areas suffered from landslides and flooding. Van Hoi commune police maintained 100% of their personnel to support the people, especially to evacuate households at risk of landslides who have not yet returned.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Hoi commune assessed that the police force was also quite busy, especially on the national highway running through Van Hoi commune, the police force and the Department of Transport of Yen Bai province had to be on duty to handle the situation.
The incident is being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
