Regarding the incident of a garbage truck crashing through the Binh Thanh bridge (in Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province) and plunging into the Huong river that occurred early this morning (November 21), leaving two people missing, the identities of the missing people have been identified.
After many hours of searching, at around 4:45 p.m. on November 21, more than 100 officers and soldiers of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police Department's rescue force and local forces found and salvaged the garbage truck from the Huu Trach River to shore. Garbage truck 75C-044.83 was found at the bottom of the Huu Trach River, in the middle of the bridge, right below the location where the truck fell.
The two people who went missing in the car were Mr. Nguyen Dang Thanh, 66 years old, residing in Phuong Duc ward, and Mr. Ton That Tin, 27 years old, residing in Thuy Van ward, Hue city. Both of them were workers at Bac Song Huong Environmental Enterprise, Hue Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company.
As VOV reported, earlier, at around 7:15 a.m. on November 21, while traveling through Binh Thanh suspension bridge, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province, garbage truck with license plate 75C 044.83 crashed into the bridge railing and fell into the river, with 2 people on board. The initial cause may have been due to the vehicle losing control.
On the same morning, Binh Dien Hydropower Plant was operating to regulate water with a flow rate through the spillway and turbine of 330m3/s to be ready to reduce flooding for downstream areas during forecasted rains in the coming time, so the river water level rose and flowed rapidly.
The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thua Thien Hue province has issued an official dispatch requesting Binh Dien Hydropower Joint Stock Company to temporarily reduce the flow through the spillway to support rescue work.
The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Thua Thien Hue Province mobilized many divers, rescue boats and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to carry out rescue and search for the two missing people.
The scene of the incident attracted many people and relatives of the two victims, everyone hoping for a miracle to happen.
Sitting absent-mindedly on the riverbank, Ms. K., wife of Mr. Ton That Tin - a garbage truck driver, quietly watched the rushing water. Sharing more with Vietnamnet, even though she was pregnant and about to give birth, she still resolutely went to the scene, hoping to see her husband return safely.
Witnesses were moved by the image of a young woman sitting on the porch of her house near Binh Thanh bridge, her eyes red and her mouth constantly praying.
Mr. Xuan (62 years old), Mr. Tin's uncle, said that he was a dutiful son, working hard to take care of his elderly mother and wife. After 5 years of marriage, Mr. Tin's family was just waiting for the joy of their first chil.d being born. However, the unexpected and unfortunate incident left the whole family shocked and heartbroke.n. "Now we just hope for a miracle so that my grandchild can return safely," Mr. Xuan said, choking with emotion.
Mr. Tinâs relatives said that early in the morning of November 21, the family received news that he had an acciden.t when the garbage truck he was driving suddenly went off the Binh Thanh suspension bridge and fell into the river. At that time, Mr. Nguyen Dang Thanh (58 years old), Mr. Tinâs long-time colleague, was also in the car. Both of them were said to have tried to escape from the car but were unfortunately swept away by the water about 200m.
According to information in the Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper, the incident occurred at around 7:15 a.m., when Mr. Tin was driving on Provincial Road 12D from National Highway 49 towards the People's Committee of Binh Thanh Commune. When reaching Binh Thanh suspension bridge, the car suddenly hit the railing and fell into the deep river.
The Thua Thien Hue provincial government immediately mobilized rescue forces and vehicles to organize the search. According to the leader of the Hue Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company, Mr. Tin has worked at the Bac Song Huong Environmental Enterprise for 7 years, while Mr. Thanh is a veteran worker with 18 years of experience.
The search for the two missing people is still ongoing, with the hopeful watch of their families and the people.
