According to Health and Life Newspaper, doctor Dao Thi Thuy Hang - Head of Lam Giang commune health station (Van Yen, Yen Bai) said that at around 1:15 p.m. on August 21, Lam Giang commune health station received c.hild L for care and treatment.
Immediately after receiving the c.hild, realizing that L was exhausted due to many days of hunger, thirst, insect bites and too many scratches... the medical staff of the station quickly cleaned, treated the wounds, applied medicine, and gave the c.hild an IV.
After 1 day and 1 night at Lam Giang Commune Health Station, L's general condition was stable, all indicators were good, so the station's doctors and nurses allowed him to go home for his family to take care of him.
"Almost 5 days alone in the forest, there were days of rain, wind, thunder and lightning... but L was still able to cope on his own, which is a very happy and rare thing. L was exhausted, lost nearly 4kg, his eyes were sunken... even his mother did not recognize him. When he met his parents, he could not call out loudly because he was too tired, he had to try very hard to be able to answer everyone's questions.
However, apart from being exhausted from hunger, thirst, and insect bites, L did not have pneumonia or sore throat... After 1 day and 1 night of care at the station, L's condition also improved very quickly, she could walk, eat, and talk to people by herself," said doctor Dao Thi Thuy Hang.
Welcoming their son back after more than 5 days missing, Mr. Dang Van Nhe and Ms. Ly Thi Phai (Lam's parents) could not hide their happiness: "A miracle has come to my family when our lost son was found and is still healthy."
Ms. Phai said that the moment she met Lam, she did not recognize that he was her son. From a healthy, fair-skinned b.oy, Lam became noticeably thinner, pale, and had many scratches and insect bites on his body.
"Since the day he went missing, he has lost nearly 4kg and is visibly thinner. Yesterday, when the officers brought him to see me, I only saw a skinny, pale c.hild with dirty hands and feet. I didn't even recognize my c.hild. It wasn't until an officer said it was Lam, and he raised his hands and weakly called "mom" that I recognized him. I quickly hugged him and we both burst into tears," Ms. Phai emotionally recounted.
According to the mother, last night, Lam had a nightmare and woke up 3 times, constantly mumbling "I don't want to roll, I don't want to roll anymore". Hearing what her son said, she could only hug him to comfort and encourage him: "You're home, I'm here, my son".
Lam said, when he got lost in the forest, he kept walking and calling "Mom, where are you? Why don't you answer me?". When he was too tired, he sat down to rest, rested for a while, then stood up and continued walking, calling his mother again. When he was too hungry, he looked for canarium fruit or chit tree to eat, when he was thirsty, he went down to the stream to drink water. At night, he looked for a tree stump or a rock to lie down and sleep.
Mr. Nhe said that because he lives in the mountains, he often teaches his children survival skills and how to deal with emergencies to ensure safety.
"Because I live in a mountainous area, I taught my c.hild from a young age which fruits and leaves of trees are edible. I also told him to memorize his parents' phone numbers to call in case of emergency," the father shared.
Lam is the only son of Mr. Nhe and his wife, he has 3 older sisters. During the days when his son was lost, Mr. Nhe lost his appetite and sleep, thinking only of finding his son. The family was at times desperate because the time his son was missing was too long, and Lam was too young. However, when the authorities drained some fish ponds and searched along streams around the area without results, the family had more faith in their son's survival.
"At first, the family thought that the c.hild had gotten lost nearby, was tired and fell asleep and would return later, but after several days of waiting without seeing the c.hild... the family panicked, everyone cried a lot, calling the c.hild until their voices were hoarse. There were times when I felt hopeless, but I always hoped that a miracle would happen to my c.hild," said Mr. Nhe, adding that when he saw his c.hild again, even though he was a strong person, he also shed tears of happiness.
Previously, on August 17, D.VL (6 years old, in Khay Dao village, Lam Giang commune) and a group of people went to the hill behind the house to pick fruit, according to Tuoi Tre.
Then L. went alone in another direction and got lost and went missing.
After receiving the news, from the afternoon of August 17, local authorities mobilized more than 100 people and dozens of villagers and commune residents to join the search for the c.hild.
The leader of Lam Giang commune also said that the locality has come up with many plans, divided into many search directions, extracted camera footage along the roads but still has not found any trace of the c.hild.
