Garbage truck falls into Huong River: video records puzzling details, no one in cabin

According to the camera recording the scene of the accident, it can be seen that when the garbage truck reached the Binh Thanh suspension bridge area (Huong Tra, Thua Thien - Hue province), it suddenly veered off course, crashed straight into the bridge railing and fell into the Huong River.

At the time of the incident, it can be seen that there were still quite a few vehicles moving in the suspension bridge area. It is known that at the time of the incident, there were 2 people on this garbage truck and they are currently missing.

After the video was released, some netizens expressed confusion, because before that, the garbage truck was still moving at normal speed, showing no signs of wobbling, but when it reached the middle of the bridge, it suddenly turned right, even though it did not have to steer to avoid any vehicles coming in the opposite direction.

According to information from Thua Thien Hue newspaper, immediately after the incident occurred, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, Provincial Police, Department of Transport, Huong Tra town... went to the scene to direct functional forces and local authorities to organize search and rescue, and determine the cause of the incident.

Binh Thanh Bridge in Binh Thanh Commune (Huong Tra Town), located on Provincial Road 12D connecting the commune center with National Highway 49A, was built in 2001 with a cable suspension bridge design nearly 140 meters long, with a surface of more than 4 meters wide, invested by the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board. According to research, when it was first put into use, the bridge had a load capacity of 13 - 18 tons. Later, the project deteriorated, and the authorities lowered the bridge load to 8 tons.

Due to the increasing number of vehicles passing through Binh Thanh Bridge in recent years, the load-bearing pressure has been affected, causing the bridge to deteriorate. With the naked eye, you can see that the bridge piers and suspension cable system have rusted... Currently, Binh Thanh Bridge is classified as a weak bridge system in the province.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Huong Tra town, said that the local government and functional units have mobilized maximum forces to carry out rescue work. However, deep and fast-flowing water in the area has made rescue efforts very difficult.

The search for the two missing people is currently underway. Rescue teams are trying to reach the area where the car sank, but the complex terrain and water currents have significantly hindered their progress. Local authorities are working closely to quickly clarify the cause and overcome the consequences of the accident.

According to the authorities, the location of the garbage truck submerged in the river has been determined. However, when the forces of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Thua Thien - Hue Police dived into the river and searched the cabin of the vehicle, they did not find the two missing people inside.

Authorities are currently looking for a way to bring machinery to lift the vehicle ashore. At the same time, they are sending boats and divers to expand the search area to find the two missing victims.

Some witnesses said that at the moment the car crashed into the river, the two victims managed to break the door and escape from the car and swim to shore. However, at the time of the incident, the water was flowing so fast that they drowned and sank, and went missing.

Regarding the incident of a garbage truck crashing through the Binh Thanh bridge (in Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province) and plunging into the Huong river that occurred early this morning (November 21), leaving two people missing, the victims have now been identified. They are Mr. Ton That Tin (born in 1997, in Thuy Van ward, Hue city) - the driver of the garbage truck and Mr. Nguyen Dang Thanh (born in 1966, in Phuong Duc ward, Hue city).
