In the early morning of December 20, a three-story house caught fire. When the fire broke out, people scrambled to escape, with 16 casualties, some of whom are in serious condition.
On December 20, a fire broke out at a 1-ground-floor, 3-story house on Xuan Hong Street, Ward 12, Tan Binh District. Two people unfortunately survived, initially identified as a man and a woman.
Specifically, at 6:30 a.m., black smoke quickly engulfed the entire house. Many residents inside had to climb over the railing to the neighboring house to escape. When the fire was discovered, residents inside the house tried to put it out but were unsuccessful.
According to a person living nearby, the house where the fire broke out was a rental house, the fire started on the ground floor. The house on fire is located at 29 Xuan Hong, Ward 12, Tan Binh District, rented by Mr. NQC (born in 1997, from Thua Thien Hue) since April 2024. The house has 1 ground floor, 1 attic, 3 floors and 1 terrace.
Witnessing the initial fire, Mr. NT said that when the fire broke out, some people on the ground floor and first floor rushed out through the main door, while people on the upper floors were trapped. A few minutes later, the fire broke out, and smoke billowed out, covering the 3rd and 4th floors.
"The fire broke out very quickly, many people tried to bring fire extinguishers to the first floor to put out the fire but could not get close because of smoke...", Mr. T said, adding that the house was divided into more than a dozen rented rooms, on the ground floor there were motorbikes, at that time there were more than 20 people living there, many were taken to ambulances with serious prognosis.
Similarly, Ms. CB, who lives next to the boarding house, said that at around 7 a.m., the fire broke out on the 3rd or 4th floor of the 4-story house, about 60 square meters wide. A few minutes later, the fire flared up, and smoke billowed out, engulfing the house. "Many people then climbed over the railings of their neighbors' houses and the electronics store next door to escape. Nearby traders had to temporarily clear out to allow the police to investigate the scene," Ms. B said.
The female owner of the coffee shop next to the house on fire shared that when she knew about the fire, she immediately rushed out, grabbed a fire extinguisher, knocked on the door of the boarding house, and shouted for help from the residents.
A representative of Thong Nhat Hospital said the patients were between 18 and 31 years old, including 6 men and 7 women. The patients mainly suffered from respiratory failure due to CO suffocation, respiratory burns and injuries of varying degrees. Currently, 3 patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit requiring respiratory support with a ventilator, 5 patients are being treated in the Respiratory Department, 1 in the Cardiovascular Department, 1 in the Musculoskeletal Department, 1 in the Orthopedic Department, and 2 in the Digestive Department.
To promptly rescue those trapped in the fire, in addition to two ambulances and teams departing from the center, this place coordinated three satellite teams from three hospitals in Tan Binh District, Tan Phu District, and Tam Anh.
The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Tan Binh District Police coordinated with related units to mobilize many officers, soldiers and specialized vehicles to quickly come to the scene to put out the fire. The fire was extinguished shortly after.
At the time of the fire, there were 23 people in the house. After the fire was extinguished, the authorities discovered that two people in room 301 had died. The deceased were identified as Ms. Tran Thi TN (born in 2001) and Mr. T. (Ms. N.'s friend). In addition, the fire injured 14 other people, who are being treated at Thong Nhat Hospital. The authorities have supported the families of the deceased with 10 million VND/person, and the injured with 5 million VND/person.
After initial first aid, the patients were transferred to specialized departments for further monitoring and treatment. Among those taken for treatment, the youngest was 18 years old, the oldest was 31 years old, the rest were between 20 and 27 years old, including 6 men and 7 women. According to Thong Nhat Hospital, the patients basically suffered from respiratory failure due to CO suffocation, respiratory burns and injuries of varying degrees.
