HN Polytechnic students accused of eating leftover rice soup, the university apologized

Recently, public opinion was stirred by the report of "24h Movement" reflecting the meals of students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology when studying national defense. The leftover rice meals have many "foreign objects" that make viewers shudder.

On October 8, Hanoi University of Science and Technology had a meeting with the press, providing information on the case related to students' reflections on the quality of meals during the period of national defense and security education.

Previously, students reflected, in 2 weeks of national defense and security education of the school, the cafeteria staff collected leftover rice, soup, then mixed well, poured into trays, containers, common pots and continued to divide them among the units to eat later. Meanwhile, students have to pay 85,000 VND/day for meals.

ASS. Dr. Huynh Dang Chinh - Deputy Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology acknowledged that it is unacceptable for the unit to provide excess soup and put it in the meals of students who come later. Hanoi University of Science and Technology accepts responsibility and will strictly handle individuals for the incident.

Regarding the provision of meals for students, Hanoi University of Science and Technology currently has 2 private units bidding for kitchens: A15 kitchen and staff cafeteria. After the feedback, the school has asked the A15 kitchen to stop operating, the staff cafeteria will temporarily provide meals for students studying National Defense and Security Education while looking for a replacement unit.

"When we saw the image in the video clip, the first thing, we realized the direct role and responsibility of the management when letting this happen," Mr. Chinh said and said that the school will continue to find a supplier to ensure food safety and hygiene regulations.

The Deputy Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology acknowledged that students' reflections on "leftover rice" are not really right. This stems from the fact that students eat rice at the table. The food is divided into trays, each table will have 1 bowl of rice and students will take rice into the tray according to their needs. Some tables, female students have poor appetite, and leftover common rice bowls will be piled up to avoid waste.

"We have learned from experience, asked the cafeteria to store rice in thermal containers, students will move to and take the rice to the tray according to their needs," Mr. Chinh said.

A representative of the Board of Directors of Hanoi University of Science and Technology said: "This is an unfortunate incident that happened, Hanoi University of Science and Technology would like to apologize and wish to receive the sympathy and sharing of parents and students. The school wishes to always receive comments from society and learners so that the school's activities are getting better and better."

According to a representative of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, there were 2 times when students reported to the kitchen about cockroaches in the rice. The reason explained by the catering unit was that there were cockroaches in the meat slicer and was immediately disposed of.

Regarding the details of students eating rice with foreign objects, the leader of Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that it is currently impossible to verify.

"The incident is an opportunity for the University of Science and Technology to recognize and re-evaluate the quality of service. We will strictly handle individuals for the incident to occur. This is also a warning, for other higher education institutions to do better things that can be controlled early," Mr. Chinh said.

In order to overcome and monitor the quality of meals for students, Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that it has directed teachers of National Defense and Security education to directly eat with students. At the same time, in the student dormitory, there are QR codes for students to directly reflect the quality of meals and activities with the student affairs office...
