The incident of Chau Bui being secretly filmed while trying on clothes in the bathroom of a studio is receiving attention from the online community. Currently, the case is being further verified and clarified by the authorities.
According to initial information, on June 23, Chau Bui and her crew had a fitting session at the studio in District 3. Before arriving, the production team checked the rooms that could be used for dressing. Because there are many cameras placed in this place, the bathroom is the most private and safe place. Here, the group checked the wall and mirror and did not see anything unusual, so they started changing clothes.
After about 30 minutes, Chau Bui accidentally discovered a watch hidden under a white towel in the corner of the bathroom. At first, she thought someone had forgotten it, but when she picked it up, the back of the watch was hot and the light kept flashing when the button was pressed. Seeing that something was wrong, the crew searched online and was stunned when they discovered that the object they were holding in their hands was a fake watch with a hidden camera.
The female model was reassured by the crew and hoped that the image would not be distributed because this watch is battery-powered and must be plugged in to get data.
Chau Bui's group immediately worked with the studio owner to check the security cameras, and discovered that the man named NTH was acting suspicious. This person is part of the production team, responsible for opening the studio and preparing the fitting session. This is also the person who goes in and out of the women's restroom many times.
To accurately identify the person who placed the hidden camera, the team purchased a device that connects to the camera watch to extract images. Finally, the image of character NTH was recorded on security cameras. In addition, the data on the hidden camera recorded sensitive images of Chau Bui while changing clothes, at close range and clearly.
The female model reported the incident to Vo Thi Sau Ward Police, District 3 and posted the incident on social networks to warn.
District 3 police are currently waiting for a report from the ward where the incident occurred. Initially, the ward police worked with the people involved and are clarifying this person's motives for Chau Bui.
Regarding the incident, some experts also gave warnings and showed how to quickly detect hidden cameras!
Kenneth Bombace, CEO of Global Threat Solutions, said the number of reports of hidden cameras has increased because the devices are becoming cheaper and more accessible.
There are countless ways to detect hidden cameras shared online. However, experts say we need to scrutinize more carefully because the tricks of bad guys are becoming more sophisticated. According to expert Kenneth Bombace, below are the most effective methods for locating hidden cameras in hotels and guest rooms.
1. Check every object, even the simplest items
When looking for hidden cameras, Bombace says, start with areas like the bathroom and bedroom.
According to Bombace, almost all secret cameras are hidden in plugged-in home appliances, such as lights, thermostats, and clock radios.
"Look to see if there's anything unusual, then check more closely," this expert noted.
Bombace added that most hidden cameras are connected to a power source or electronic device. The first thing he did in the bedroom was unplug the electronic clocks and put them in a drawer.
Michael O'Rourke, CEO of security consulting firm Advanced Operational Concepts, said he did the same thing himself. O'Rourke recommends being more patient to accurately position hidden lenses, as it's easy to miss them on simple objects.
2. Turn off the lights and turn on the flash and phone camera
Most hidden cameras are equipped with red or green LED lights. If placed in hidden locations, they will flash more due to poor lighting. When turning off all the lights in the room, observe those signs. You can close your eyes for about 5 seconds and then open them. Your eyes will adapt to the darkness and observe more easily.
In addition, you should use your phone's flash/flashlight when the naked eye cannot detect it. Shine a beam of light across the room. If there is another recording device, it will reflect the light back.
Even well-hidden cameras will have a flickering reflection from the lens, Bombace said.
"If you use a flashlight and shine it on what you think is where the camera is, you will see a reflection there, which is a pretty good way to detect if there is a camera or not," the expert revealed.
Another way is to turn on your phone's camera and also film around the room in recording mode. If there is an object that is another camera, it will reflect or show a light spot on the screen.
3. Check Wi-Fi
Bombace says hidden cameras must be connected to a local Wi-Fi network to be viewed remotely.
He points out Wi-Fi scanning apps like Fing can determine whether devices on the network are cameras or not.
Bombace says that camera operators can use private Wi-Fi networks to view video footage, but Wi-Fi scanning apps can also detect how many networks are in a residence.
Meanwhile, according to Kody Kinzie, a security researcher at data security and analytics company Varonis, you should be wary of devices that are broadcasting network names by their own names.
This expert recommends using apps like WiGLE to find devices "broadcasting Bluetooth and Wi-Fi networks."
4. Find hidden cameras using specialized equipment
If you're still not sure, a hidden camera detector is an effective tool that can scan for radio frequencies connected to hidden cameras. But O'Rourke notes that this method only works if the hidden camera is transmitting data.
"A lot of cameras use memory cards to store data and only retrieve it after someone leaves," O'Rourke said. "Such cameras are much more difficult to detect."
Meanwhile, if we buy radio frequency scanners, we have to buy machines that cost up to tens of millions of dong.
