Ministry of Public Security latest information on Quang Linh and a series of youtubers whose channels were hacked

In early April, many YouTube channels with large followings in Vietnam were continuously taken over by hackers, including Quang Linh Vlogs. Recently, the Ministry of Public Security informed about this incident.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, this demonstrates the increase in high-tech crimes.

This figure is mentioned in the Government's report to the National Assembly on crime prevention and control and law violations in 2024 (from October 2023 to the en.d of September 2024), signed by Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang on behalf of the Government.

Minister Luong Tam Quang also informed that high-tech crimes continue to increase with many new methods and tricks of crime.

The most prominent are acts of online property fraud and appropriation with extremely sophisticated methods and tricks; gambling activities organized and played online; lines operating "black credit" activities online...

Notably, the activity is to hijack social media accounts of influential people on the internet, then change their names, spread information and advertising images to serve personal purposes, and commit illegal activities for profit.

Specifically, some YouTube channels of celebrities with high numbers of followers have been taken over by hackers.

In particular, the Youtube channel system "African Life", with 3 famous channels including Quang Linh Vlogs, The Nhan Vlogs and Dong Paulo Vlogs, simultaneously lost control.

After taking control of these 3 Youtube channels, hackers changed the cover photo and profile picture on the channel to promote a cryptocurrency with the aim of defrauding mone.y.

After about a day of having his account hacked, Youtuber Quang Linh Vlogs (real name Pham Quang Linh) has regained his Youtube channel and another channel in the same system, The Nhan Vlogs.

However, the Youtube channel Dong Paulo Vlogs encountered many difficulties in the recovery process and at times it seemed that the channel had been completely deleted. However, this Youtube channel was restored shortly after.

At that time, he said he was devastated when he discovered that all the Youtube channels on the system were taken over by hackers. Initially, Quang Linh Vlogs thought that he had lost all the Youtube channels he had worked hard to build and had to start over.

However, thanks to the support team of Youtube, Quang Linh Vlogs was able to get his Youtube channels back. However, some videos with high views on his channel were deleted by hackers, forcing Quang Linh Vlogs to re-upload these contents.

Quang Linh Vlogs also revealed how hackers attacke.d and took control of his Youtube channel.

Accordingly, this Youtuber's group used many different computers to edit and process videos before posting them on Youtube, including both Mac and Windows computers. In particular, the Windows computer was infected with malware due to using unlicensed "pirated" software.

Specifically, Quang Linh Vlogs admitted that in order to save costs, he and his team searched for and followed instructions online to crac.k copyrighted graphics and video processing software, but did not expect that this had accidentally infected the computer with malware, thereby paving the way for hackers to infiltrate and steal the main Gmail account of the Youtube channel.

Quang Linh Vlogs believes that hackers had infiltrated his computer a long time ago, right after installing "pirated" software, but they only started taking control of Youtube channels when needed.

Notably, searching for and installing pirated software and cracked software versions from the internet is very familiar to computer users in Vietnam, especially when many software have very high copyright fees, beyond the ability to pay of many users.

However, according to security experts, using software cracking tools downloaded from the internet is the fastest way to infect computers with malware, because most of these cracked software contain malware, spyware, viruses or will open backdoors that allow hackers to silently infiltrate users' computers.

Faced with this situation, the National Steering Committee for Cyber Security and Safety has directed the implementation of many solutions to overcome cyber security and safety risks.

In particular, the forces focused on fightin.g and destroyin.g 28 high-tech crime cases, prosecuting 22 cases and 72 defendants.

Authorities have blocked access to over 23,500 websites and social media accounts that violated the law; prosecuted 1,521 cases and 658 criminals in the fields of information technology and telecommunications networks.
