Regarding the case of luring victims to 'practice to become immortals' and then appropriating nearly 100 billion VND, the man stated that he bought the items for only a few hundred thousand VND but resold them to the victims for up to 5 billion VND.
Regarding the case of luring the victi.m to practice to become a god and then embezzling nearly 100 billion VND, the Criminal Police Department, Dak Lak Provincial Police, has fought and exploited the testimon.y of the ringleader.
Working with the police, Nguyen Anh Tuan (39 years old, residing in Binh Duong) stated: He and his wife Nguyen Thi Nho have studied a little bit of Buddhism.
Later, the two subjects became acquainted with the victims. For those who wanted to practice, Tuan and his wife would guide them and teach them online. In addition, the subjects also sought to buy items (exaggerated as magical tools to help the victims practice and soon attain enlightenment).
Although the price of the above items was only a few hundred thousand VND (the highest was 250,000 VND), the couple inflated the prices, enticing the victims to buy at very high prices. The highest was more than 5 billion VND/item.
In 2021, Tuan and Nho realized that many rich people wanted to practice to attain enlightenment and become immortals, so they came up with the idea of fraud. The couple lured the victims to contribute mone.y to buy more than 6 hectares of land in Ea Khal commune (Ea H'leo district, Dak Lak) to build an ancestral temple and 6 rooms for practice.
Not only that, this couple also enticed the victims to buy items to support their practice and quickly attain enlightenment.
The subjects exaggerated the rarity of the items to sell them at "exorbitant" prices.
To gain more trust, Nho created many Gmail accounts impersonating masters and masters, claiming to have the ability to separate souls to travel around the world and move objects with magical powers. The purpose was to lure and force the victims to buy objects for their practice.
In addition, Tuan and his wife hired people to bury the objects in a plot of land and then lied that the master had used magic to move them there. They also hired someone to impersonate the "Hoang Milan" master to teach Buddhism, in order to increase the credibility of their actions.
Initially, the police clarified that Tuan and his wife used the trick of practicing to attain enlightenment to deceive 3 victims and appropriate nearly 100 billion VND.
One victi.m lost more than 50 billion VND because he believed that practicing meditation would lead to enlightenment and becoming a god. Specifically, this person sold 3 houses and 2 companies in Hanoi to buy meditation materials at very high prices. From a rich person, they became penniless because they believed that practicing meditation would lead to enlightenment and becoming a god.
Searching the couple's residence and practice place, the police seized 10 land use right registration certificates; 3 savings cards worth nearly 12 billion VND; 1 car worth 2.7 billion VND, more than 100 million VND in cash; 2 motorbikes; many gold jewelry and hundreds of related practice objects.
Spirituality is a difficult subject to explain, and people must be really vigilant against the 'psychological tricks' of scammers to avoid losing mone.y and getting into trouble. Thanks to the development of technology, these tricks are becoming more and more sophisticated.
An online spiritual services market is booming on social media platforms like Face.book, TikTok and many other websites, attracting hundreds of thousands of members.
Faced with this situation, the Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications has just issued a warning about online fraud, especially spiritual fraud, which is quite complicated due to scams targeting a segment of people who are gullible, trusting, and lack knowledge about technology.
One of the common tricks is to use general messages that appeal to the victi.m's fear. For example, the subjects may say that the family is being followed by a "spirit", "this year is a bad year", "need to perform a ceremony to cu.t of.f the negative ties to avoid great disaster", thereby enticing the victi.m to spend mone.y to perform a ceremony to remove the bad luck. In addition, many subjects also advertise feng shui items with "miraculous" effects to sell at sky-high prices. They also set up groups on social networks, posting attractive content to attract gullible people to fall into the trap.
