Hanoi: Clarifying the case of selling "fake A80 invitations", dozens of people had their money stolen

According to the initial investigation results, Thuong posted information on social networks, specifically on the Facebook account "Phan Hanh Thuong", selling invitations to the A80 Anniversary and Parade for 2 million VND/invitation. To gain trust, the subject said that these were invitations given by acquaintances and asked the buyer to provide citizen identification information.

Thuong also recruited another person to join in "gathering customers", thereby expanding the scope of the scam. Using this trick, many people trusted and transferred deposits to own "special invitations" to attend the event. However, all the invitations only existed in Thuong's words. After receiving the money, the subject did not deliver any invitations but used all the money collected to pay off debts and personal expenses.

As of August 27, the authorities determined that Thuong had received a total of VND135 million, corresponding to the promise to provide 68 invitations to many people. However, in reality, no invitations were delivered to the "customers". On August 29, after consolidating the documents, the Internal Political Security Department transferred the entire case file to the Hanoi City Police Investigation Agency for handling according to the law.

It is known that the A80 Anniversary and Parade is an important political and social event of the country, organized by the Central Steering Committee for Celebrating Major Holidays. Invitations are issued according to the prescribed composition, strictly managed and there is absolutely no ticket sales channel. Therefore, the information selling invitations on social networks is a scam, taking advantage of the eager psychology of people wanting to directly witness the event to appropriate property.

Through the work of monitoring the situation on cyberspace, the Internal Political Security Department, Hanoi City Police promptly detected unusual signs. The investigation results showed that all of Thuong's actions were for the purpose of profiteering, without any "legal invitation" in existence. The fact that the subject collected money and used it to pay debts and personal expenses was sufficient grounds for prosecution and strict handling.

From this incident, Hanoi City Police advise people to be extremely vigilant with invitations and sales of documents and invitations related to major events. Because these types of invitations are often strictly managed by competent authorities and are never publicly issued or widely sold.
