Hoping that her children would live in a better environment when they realized that Penglai Pure House was not a legally recognized religious institution and faced many legal troubles, Ms. Dung was determined to reclaim her son.
In the controversy around the Bong Lai Tinh House (later renamed Zen am on the edge of the universe) that was of great public interest, the case of reclaiming Tran Thi My Dung's child recently collapsed.
Ms. Dung is the biological mother of baby T.G.B (born in 2017), sent her child to Bong Lai Tinh That to be adopted by Ms. Cao Thi Cuc in 2019. After the Penglai Tinh House was noisy and Ms. Cao Thi Cuc was arrested, who was in prison, Ms. Dung filed a lawsuit against Ms. Cuc.
Accordingly, Ms. Dung asked Duc Hoa district TAND to declare an end to the adoption of Ms. Cuc so that she could receive her children to be raised. The case has been making headlines for a long time and has only recently come to fruition.
According to a report in the Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper, in the afternoon of March 4, 2024, the TAND of Duc Hoa district, Long An has handed down the final sentence to the noisy case demanding the children of Tinh That Bong Lai. Accordingly, Ms. Tran Thi My Dung, the biological mother of baby T.G.B (born in 2017) sent her child to Bong Lai Tinh That to be adopted by Ms. Cao Thi Cuc in 2019 due to difficulties in life. However, after realizing many complicated issues at this place, Ms. Dung decided to reclaim custody of her children.
On the afternoon of March 4, 2024, the judgment of Duc Hoa District TAND was announced, ordering Ms. Cuc and related individuals at Bong Lai Tinh That to return baby T.G.B. to Ms. Dung to ensure her right to care, nurture and education.
Ms. Dung initially sent her son to Penglai Pure House in the hope that her son would live in a better environment. However, after realizing that this place was not a legally recognized religious institution and encountered many legal troubles, Ms. Dung was determined to reclaim her son.
Ms. Dung also expressed concern that Bong Lai often posted pictures of Baby B. on social media, which could affect his psychology in the future. On the other hand, Ms. Cuc is serving a prison sentence, so she will not be able to raise Child B.
In addition, Ms. Dung also accused Ms. Cuc of violating the agreement when handing over Baby B. for adoption. When she delivered her baby, Cuc said she could visit him comfortably. However, when the procedure was completed, Ms. Dung could only visit her children a few times, after which she was not allowed to visit again.
This decision was also an important turning point, closing a sad chapter in T.G.B's life and opening up new opportunities for him to live in the loving arms of his birth mother, where he could receive the right care, education and protection.
Finally, the case also sheds light on legal issues related to custody and children's rights, and promotes greater emphasis on protecting these rights in the future.
The Board of Trustees of the Vietnam Buddhist Church in Long An province affirmed that the Bong Lai Retreat (later renamed Zen am on the edge of the universe) is not a Buddhist institution. The people who call themselves "teachers", "aunts", "uncles" here are not monks.
In response to the fuss over Ms. Dung's child, the Penglai Jing House also adopted another baby from an economically incapable mother. In the document for the child, the mother's reason was that because the "family situation was too difficult", so she "permanently cut off the baby for Mr. Le Tung Van" and wanted to demand to pay VND 10 billion.
