Social media has been abuzz in recent days with the news that a father in Tay Ninh poured gasoline and set fire, causing severe burns to his two young children and his ex-wife. The father passed away after a week of treatment.
The serious incident occurred in Duc Hoa commune (Tay Ninh), when a father was said to have brought a can of gasoline to the rented room of his ex-wife and two young children. This man was accused of pouring gasoline on his children and ex-wife, causing the mother and three children to suffer severe burns.
According to a report from Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital, the unit received two children who are biological sisters, residing in Duc Hoa commune. Both were hospitalized with burns all over their bodies, determined to be the result of arson by their biological father.
According to the victimâs relatives, before the incident, the father worked as a truck driver and the mother was a factory worker. After the divorce in July, the man repeatedly came to cause trouble and had the intention of âphysically affectingâ the whole family; burning down the house since April.
Specifically, at around 6am on August 17, he brought a can of gasoline, poured it directly on his two children, his ex-wife and around the bedroom, and then set it on fire. The youngest child was quickly taken to Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital, while the older sister had to receive first aid before being transferred to the hospital with medical staff.
Doctors said the 13-year-old sister suffered 2nd-3rd degree burns covering 45% of her body, with a high risk of sepsis. The 5-year-old brother was in more critical condition, with burns covering 75% of his body, along with respiratory burns. Both children are still receiving intensive treatment at the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old mother was also hospitalized with gasoline burns covering 74% of her body. At Cho Ray Hospital (HCMC), she was closely monitored and underwent multiple surgeries to remove open wounds. Her health is still critical. Notably, the father, suspected of arson, also suffered severe burns covering 77% of his body and died after a week of treatment.
The authorities have now received the case files from the hospitals. The public continues to follow the investigation.
Previously, public opinion was also shocked by the cruel behavior of a son towards his biological mother that occurred in Hamlet 1, Ward 5, Tra Vinh City, Tra Vinh Province.
Ms. Dao Thi Tho (24 years old) - a neighbor who had to run away with her child - recounted the moment of panic when the subject's mother ran straight into the house to ask for help. Ms. Tho said that at that time, her son named Trung poured gasoline on her and set her on fire, so she ran into her house to ask for help.
Too scared, Ms. Tho did not bring a phone to call the police and just ran away. "My child, Mrs. H and I ran into the house and closed the door. Trung was outside kicking the glass door hard. People around ran to control the subject," Ms. Tho added.
Living not far from Mrs. H's house, Mrs. Duong Ngoc Han (45 years old) said that she used to help take care of her youngest daughter who was in kindergarten so that Mrs. H could sell lottery tickets.
Mrs. H's family has 3 children. The eldest daughter just got a job at a bakery near home, the youngest is in kindergarten; Trung works hard, earns money to help his mother with daily expenses and pay for his younger siblings' education. According to Mrs. Han, a few years ago, Mrs. H's husband's business failed and he suffered from depression. Mrs. H had to sell lottery tickets and work at a noodle shop to support her children.
But after Tet, Trung showed unusual behavior, often walking on the streets in the neighborhood with a gloomy face and the heartbreaking incident happened on the afternoon of February 24. No one really expected a gentle, hard-working young man to do such a thing.
"After the incident, Trung was arrested by the police. Ms. H was taken to the emergency room by local people, her eldest daughter took care of her mother, and her youngest daughter was picked up by relatives," Ms. Han added.
Subject Duong Quoc Trung is being detained by Tra Vinh Provincial Police for investigation, consolidation of records, and handling according to the provisions of law.
