During the peak days of preparation for the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, an incident related to false information spread on social networks caused a stir in public opinion.
The Internal Political Security Department, Hanoi City Police has just handled a case of spreading fabricated news about a 90-year-old veteran not being allowed to attend the preliminary ceremony of the parade and parade on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street.
On the evening of August 27, a video appeared on a number of social networking forums recording the image of an elderly man accompanying his relatives to the area of Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, where the preliminary ceremony of the military parade and parade was taking place. The content of the video with the caption said that the task force did not let the 90-year-old veteran watch because he "did not buy a seat".
This information immediately spread strongly, attracting thousands of shares, comments and mixed opinions. Many people expressed their frustration, saying that this practice goes against the tradition of honoring and thanking those who have made meritorious contributions to the country. However, after entering the verification, the police confirmed that this was completely fabricated, false, causing serious misunderstanding and adversely affecting the image of the functional forces.
As soon as the information spread, the Internal Political Security Department, Hanoi City Police coordinated with relevant parties to conduct verification. The police directly worked with Mr. N.V.L â the main character in the video, along with his accompanying relatives and security forces on duty in the area of Nguyen Thai Hoc Street.
Through verification, it is known that on the evening of August 27, Mr. N.V.L. was taken by his relatives to watch the preliminary ceremony of the parade. When passing by No. 56 Nguyen Thai Hoc, he intended to enter the area behind the security fence. At this time, the task force gently guided, and at the same time took him and his family about 90m to a location with a more favorable view. In particular, there is also a seating area arranged separately for the elderly and priority guests, ensuring that you can follow the entire event in the best conditions.
This is in stark contrast to the video content circulating online, which claimed that he was prevented from buying a seat.
After the investigation process, the Hanoi City Police identified the person who posted the video with false content as L.T.A. (born in 2005, residing in Phuong Duc commune, Hanoi city).
On August 29, L.T.A. was invited to work. At the police office, this person confessed that he posted false information due to personal frustration, specifically because of a conflict with a woman in black who appeared in the video. Due to anger, L.T.A. deduced the incident himself, claiming that the veteran was prevented because he "did not buy a seat", then posted it on social networks without verification.
In front of the police, L.T.A. admitted the mistake, removed all false content, and apologized to Mr. N.V.L., accompanying relatives, security forces on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street as well as the Celebration Organizing Committee.
The Internal Political Security Department, Hanoi City Police has compiled a dossier to handle L.T.A. for the act of "Providing and sharing fake information, false information, distorting slander and insulting the reputation of agencies, organizations, honor and dignity of individuals" .
This act is specified at Point a, Clause 1, Article 101 of the Government's Decree No. 15/2020/ND-CP dated February 3, 2020, amended and supplemented in Decree No. 14/2022/ND-CP dated January 27, 2022. Accordingly, the sanction can be up to tens of millions of VND, depending on the severity of the violation and the consequences caused.
The strict handling of this case is considered a wake-up call for individuals who lack awareness, arbitrarily share or post unverified content on social networks.
From the above incident, the Hanoi City Police issued a recommendation to all people to be cautious and vigilant when posting, sharing or commenting on information of unknown origin, especially important political and social events. Each individual needs to be aware of their responsibility in using social networks, avoid inadvertently aiding fake news and false news to spread, causing public confusion and affecting the reputation of organizations and individuals.
