On the afternoon of May 23, a fire broke out in the 14th floor apartment of The Vesta apartment building (Hanoi), causing many people inside this apartment building to flee. Witnesses said that at that time, black smoke and flames were rising.
According to information from Vietnamnet, on the afternoon of May 23, information from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Ha Dong District Police said that the unit had just promptly extinguished the apartment fire at The Vesta apartment building.
Specifically, at 11:20 on the same day, Command Information Center 114 - Hanoi City Police received a fire alarm at the apartment on the 14th floor, The Vesta apartment building. At the scene, blazing flames erupted from the windows and balconies of the apartment. Black smoke spread throughout the 14th floor and billowed outside, which people could observe from afar.
Many people inside this apartment ran out when they heard about the fire.
Receiving the news, Command Information Center 114 dispatched 2 fire engines of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Ha Dong District Police, 2 fire trucks of the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of Region 4 (Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Police Hanoi City) and 30 officers and soldiers came to the scene to put out the fire.
After about 15 minutes, the local firefighting force extinguished the fire, and the professional Fire and Rescue Police continued to spray cooling water. The police determined that the fire did not cause any human damage, and property damage is being counted by the apartment owner and the apartment management board.
Phu Lam ward police said that the location of the fire was apartment 1412, 14th floor V4 of The Vesta social housing area. The cause of the fire was due to an electrical short circuit in the 8m2 functional room.
Previously, at around 10:30 p.m. on May 17, a fire broke out in a 4-story house selling a gym, game, and billiards complex near Lane 1147, Lang Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi. Upon receiving the news, the fire department mobilized many fire trucks and dozens of soldiers to the scene to extinguish the fire and rescue.
At the time of the fire, many people climbed to the rooftop and corrugated iron roof of the building to wait for the police to rescue them. Outside Lang Street, many ambulances were dispatched. Hundreds of curious people stood on both sides of Lang Street watching the fire.
According to some sources, the fire started from the 2nd floor of the closed gym. Some people tried to break through glass doors and rolling doors to put out the fire, but failed. The fire and smoke then spread to the 3rd and 4th floors, where hundreds of people were playing billiards and games. "The electricity went out. I heard people shouting that there was a short circuit, then burning smoke rose, and the group of 10 of us who were playing billiards quickly ran away," Mr. N. said.
Also escaping from the house, Mr. M. (27 years old) said that around 10 p.m. he was playing games on the 3rd floor when suddenly the building lost power. A while later the power came back on. However, after a few minutes, the power continued to go out.
Then he and everyone else saw a burning smell and black smoke spreading into the room.
"Knowing there was a fire, I and many people ran to the stairs to go down to the 2nd floor. But due to the smoke, I turned around to find a way out to the rooftop. At this time I saw a number of girls fainting from the fire. inhaling toxic smoke," Mr. M. said.
After escaping to the rooftop, Mr. M. and many people were guided by the fire prevention and rescue police force to safely escape to the ground.
Also according to Mr. M., when the fire broke out, there were many people in the house, but everyone told each other to calmly find a way out, not to jostle or push.
15 minutes after the fire broke out, the Fire and Rescue Police mobilized 7 specialized vehicles and 40 soldiers to the scene.
The police divided into two groups, one group demolished and cut the rolling door on the second floor where the fire broke out to use water hoses to put out the fire. A group approached the 3rd and 4th floors to instruct people to use breathing apparatus and gas masks to go through the roof and stairs to escape.
FAS Angel team dispatched 4 first aid vehicles to support the fire department. Three people were taken to Transport Hospital due to smoke inhalation. By 10:36 p.m., the fire was extinguished. More than 50 people were guided out safely.
