An Giang: The forest fire on Co To Mountain is controlled, some places still have smoldering smoke

The forest fire that occurred in the Co To mountain area (Nui To commune, Tri Ton district, An Giang) was basically controlled this morning. The current fire area has about 6-7 points still generating smoke.

According to information from Dan Tri, on the morning of April 27, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tinh, Commander of the Military Command of Tri Ton district (An Giang province) said that the forest fire in the Ke Cang Duoc area on Co To mountain (To Thuan hamlet, Nui To commune, Tri Ton district) has been basically controlled.

According to preliminary reports, at around 10:00 a.m. on April 26, the Military Command of Nui To commune received news of a forest fire occurring in the Ke Cang Duoc area (in To Thuan hamlet).

More than 150 people including forest rangers, district military command, police, mobile police and local authorities urgently participated in fighting the fire.

At 4:40 p.m. on the same day, due to the area's steep terrain and large rocks exploding and falling from above, firefighting forces withdrew to ensure safety. After many hours of firefighting efforts with nearly 400 people from various forces, on the morning of April 27, the fire on Co To Mountain was basically controlled.

The fire did not affect the residential area, but at some points in the rock cavities and crevices, the authorities noted that it was still smoldering. Initial estimates were that the fire area was more than 6 hectares wide, mostly bamboo, bamboo and a small portion of forest trees.

Tri Ton district is continuing to mobilize forces and vehicles to approach areas with smoldering smoke to completely extinguish the fire.

Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of Tri Ton District People's Council Cao Quang Liem and Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of Tri Ton District People's Committee Nguyen Van Be Tam were present at the scene to direct the forest fire fighting work.

To fight the fire, the district mobilized more than 150 people from many forces such as rangers, military, police, local authorities and people to participate in fire fighting. The firefighting forces dispatched 2 water trucks, 15 shoulder-mounted fire extinguishers, 3 water pumps in mountainous areas and 350 plastic cans to supply water.

However, at about 6:30 p.m. the same day, the fire became more complicated, with a large fire combined with mountainous terrain, each can of water had to be carried up the mountain by hand, and at the same time rocks exploded and fell from above, so the forces decided to Stop fighting fires to ensure the safety of those participating in firefighting.

Mr. Nguyen Van Be Tam said: "Due to the complex mountain terrain, very large fires, exploding rocks could be caused by bombs left over from the war being detonated by fire, so at the end of the afternoon, we agreed to withdraw troops to ensure safety for the force. The fire started from dry grass on the mountain, the fire area has no forest, mainly rocks and trees. The burned area has no houses.

To limit the spread of the fire, firefighters cut the runway to localize the fire.

Because the fire terrain is high in the mountains, people far from the fire area can see the fire. At about 20:00 the same day, the fire was still glowing red in the sky.
