Passenger car accident in Spring Pass: driver does not control speed, many people are injured

A passenger car plunged into a chasm more than 20m deep while traveling on Ho Chi Minh Road, injuring many people. The driver of the car does not control the speed, does not slow down when crossing the curve, so the car loses control, causing an accident on its own.

On the morning of February 4, the Kon Tum Provincial Traffic Department had an initial report of a traffic accident on Spring Pass through Dak Glei district (Kon Tum).

Around 21:45 on February 3, BKS 47B-005.29 (type 43) passenger car driven by Mr. P.V.N. (34 years old, Dak Lak resident) was driving in the direction of Quang Nam to Kon Tum. When reaching Km1455 300 Ho Chi Minh Road, the section of Dak Gô village (Dak Kroong commune, Dak Glei district) there was an accident.

When reaching Dak Kroong commune, Dak Glei district, the car suddenly lost control and plunged into a depth of about 20m.

The vehicle rolled several times, deformed and badly damaged. Many passengers were injured and panicked, and some escaped using their phones to call for rescue.

Ngoc Hoi Police Station, Traffic Department, Kon Tum Provincial Police coordinated with Dak Glei district authorities to break down the door and take the victims to the emergency room.

At the time of the incident, there were 37 people on board (32 passengers, 4 garage staff and 1 driver). The injured victims were taken out of the vehicle by authorities and transported to Dak Glei Medical Center.

According to the Kon Tum Provincial Police, the preliminary cause was initially determined to be the driver not controlling the speed, not slowing down when crossing the curve and the car losing control caused the accident. Shortly after the incident, authorities conducted a breathalyzer alcohol test on the P.V.N. driver, which resulted in 0.000 mg/l (i.e. no alcohol content).

Leaders of Kon Tum Provincial General Hospital said that on the morning of February 4, the unit received 6 patients in the aforementioned accident.

"Among them, 3 patients were seriously injured, including: Mr. P.V.N. (driver) with a fractured left femur, Mr. N.D.T. (35) with a fractured tibia and Mr. T.T.T.C. (55, from Gia Lai) with broken ribs, pneumothorax; After that, the victims asked to be transferred to their province. The other patients suffered minor injuries and were discharged," he said.

Shortly after the incident, authorities conducted a breathalyzer alcohol test on the P.V.N. driver, which resulted in 0.000 mg/l (i.e. no alcohol content). The police are currently awaiting the results of the driver's blood alcohol test and drug tests at Kon Tum Hospital.

There are no results of the cruise monitoring extract, so the speed of the vehicle has not been determined.

After the accident, Mr. D.S. (58 years old, Dak Lak) still looked dismayed. He immediately said, because he had a job in Hue, he went to Hue to handle it. After finishing his work, he immediately took a car from Thua Thien - Hue to go home to Krong Nang district (Dak Lak) to celebrate Tet with his family. "I remember, it was almost 9 p.m. when I crossed Spring Pass. Then came the road by quiet car so I overslept. While I was sleeping, I saw the car shake violently, then flip several times into the cliff. When I woke up in the morning, I found myself in the hospital," Sang said.

After learning of the accident, Mr. H.D.D. (volunteer in SOS Spring team) and many members of the team went to the scene to assist the victims in distress.

"Upon arrival, the victims were mostly taken to the emergency room by the police. My brothers and I searched the car and around the scene to see if anyone was thrown out or crushed under the car," he said.

According to Mr. D., at the scene, he saw a deep chasm and the car was damaged and crushed due to the strong impact. Many passengers who have not ceased to be shocked and worried have been taken to the Medical Center for temporary rest.
