In a notice issued on May 26, the Department of Food Safety stated that in recent days, there have been some cases of patients suspected of poisoning due to botulinum toxin in some localities such as Kon Tum and Binh Duong.

Botulinum toxin is a serious poisoning that affects human health.

Botulinum toxin is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum in an anaerobic (airless environment). Products from vegetables, tubers, fruits, fermented and canned meat and seafood that do not meet food safety conditions are at risk of being contaminated with Clostridium botulinum bacteria and producing botulinum toxin.

Patients with botulinum toxin poisoning have nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, paralysis in the sequence of paralysis starting from the head, face and neck, spreading to the hands, then to the legs, paralysis of the respiratory muscles. steam; Severe paralysis can cause respiratory failure which is the cause of death.

Faced with the above situation, the Food Safety Department recommends that people strictly comply with ensuring food safety and hygiene, eat well and drink well.
