NewJeans officially changed its name, immediately suspected of copying aespa's logo

According to the Koreaherald, the members of K-pop gir.l group NewJeans — Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein — have changed the group's name to " NJZ" and announced their first independent activity, including a performance at an upcoming event in Hong Kong (China).

On February 7, the IG accounts of the 5 female idols originally set up under the name "jeanzforfree" were changed to "njz_official". They officially announced the new group name NJZ and posted promotional images of the 5 members.

The IG account representing the members' parents was also renamed "njz_pr" (formerly "jeanz_pr"). Producer Min Hee Jin - former CEO of ADOR - clicked "like" all posts posted by NJZ on February 7.

In addition, Koreaherald said that NJZ will have its first performance under the new name at the "Complex Live" concert event, which is within the framework of the global street fashion and culture festival "ComplexCon Hong Kong (China)", which will take place from March 21-23.

Member Minji shared, "We are excited to sho.w a new side of ourselves as NJZ on stage for the first time. This performance is a very important moment and we look forward to sharing the new music that we want to introduce to fans around the world."

NewJeans launched in July 2022, quickly becoming the most successful gir.l group of the 4th generation of Kpop, with a unique style with Y2K colors and music that follows the "easy-to-listen" trend.

The group has a series of hits such as "Attention", "Hype bo.y", "OMG", "Ditto", "Super Shy", "ETA"... swept the Korean music charts and entered many prestigious international charts. NewJeans' mini album "Get Up" once ranked No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

After more than 2 years, 5 NewJeans members have announced the termination of the exclusive contract with ADOR from 29.11.2024 for the reason that the company breached its contractual obligations.

However, ADOR still affirmed that the contract was still valid and filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the contract. The company has also filed for an injunction banning the group, in order to maintain ADOR's status as a management company and prevent members from arbitrarily signing independent advertising contracts.

The first court hearing to consider the application for a restraining order filed by ADOR against the five NewJeans members will take place on March 7 in Civil Room 50 of the Seoul Central Court.

After announcing the new name, NewJeans was immediately accused of plagiarism.

Accordingly, along with the new group name, the girls released a series of portraits of each member and group photos with the "NJZ" logo, introducing their upcoming performance at the "ComplexCon" concert event taking place in Hong Kong (China) on March 23.

In the promotional photo series, the 5 NJZ members appeared with a more mature style. Hanni described, "the group's new image will be completely different from what everyone is used to."

"We want to experiment with many new performance styles. In the past, we pursued the image of the "gir.l next door". Now, we want to bring a more edgy and daring style.

In terms of fashion, we love street style and unisex clothing. These factors will play an important role in the group's new fashion style," Hanni told CNN about NJZ's direction.

The "NJZ" logo also attracts attention. The logo is designed in a style that simulates silver-gray metal, and another logo is scratched metal.

The group's new logo received many compliments, but also caused controversy. Some netizens think that the NJZ logo plagiarizes the idea of the aespa group - famous for its silver-gray chrome metal logo.

However, there are also opinions in favor of NewJeans, arguing that aespa is not a "exclusive" group on metal-related design styles.
