"Minji worked as a trainee at Source Music when she was only 13 years old. Source Music also forced Minji to quit public school and "go to an art school". Minji was even afraid to call her mother when she had to go home alone in the middle of the night.

Along with Minji's mother's frustration, Hyein NewJeans' mother also explained that they initially signed with Source Music because this was the only company accepting female trainees at the time with the promise of debuting in HYBE's first girl group.
