On April 5, the Department of Health of Lam Dong province said that in the locality, 30 students had to be hospitalized for health checks after eating candy in front of the school gate.
Accordingly, around 14:00 on April 4, some students of Tan Chau Secondary School (Tan Chau commune, Di Linh district) bought candy at a grocery store opposite the school, brought it to class to share meals.
After eating candy, children with headaches, abdominal pain, nausea should be taken to Di Linh District Health Center for health examination and monitoring.
As of this morning, April 5, the students have been discharged from the hospital for observation at home.
According to the Department of Health of Lam Dong province, after testing, authorities initially determined that the students did not have common food poisoning; It is suspected that these children have mild symptoms of hysteria: fatigue, shortness of breath, shortness of breath, aches and pains... Pathology is often expressed by movement disorders, sensory disorders, sensory disorders and mental disorders.
Currently, Di Linh District People's Committee has taken candy samples for inspection and made a written report to the superior authorities requesting verification.
This is not the only case of a series of students showing signs of poisoning after eating strange sweets sold at the school gate. Previously, on March 28, receiving information about the sale of candies of unknown origin and origin in front of Hanh Tin Tay Secondary School (Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province), the police of Hanh Tin Tay commune advised to establish an interdisciplinary inspection team.
Through inspection, the functional forces found that Nguyen Dinh Nhi (resident of Phu Khuong village, Hanh Tin Tay commune; owner of Nhi Ka shop) was selling 0.8kg of candy pellets with sheaths, candy shells with many colors, without brands and origin and origin.
The initial working process determined that, on March 25, Nguyen Dinh Nhi bought 4 packages of candies with the above characteristics at Quang Ngai market, each package weight was 0.5kg with the amount of 50,000 VND/kg to resell for 1,000 VND 4 tablets.
Nguyen Dinh Nhi sold these candies to many students of Hanh Tin Tay Secondary School, leaving only 0.8kg. Many students of the school have bought and used it in the past days and develop symptoms of nausea, abdominal pain, and chest tightness.
Many parents are extremely worried when learning that students in many provinces and cities are poisoned by eating candies bought in front of the school gate. TS.BS. Nguyen Trung Nguyen, Director of Poison Control Center, Bach Mai Hospital recommends that, in order to limit the risk of children being exposed to strange sweets, affecting the health, parents absolutely do not give money to their children to buy snacks at school.
Limit snacking for children, remind children to eat foods of clear origin, do not eat or drink strange foods outside the school area. Because these products have potential risks of food insanitation and safety, causing poisoning.
In case children eat strange sweets, appear signs of excitement, irritation, headache or nausea, teachers and parents should immediately take children to medical facilities.
When children bring strange candy products home, parents need to observe, do not let them eat. If the child has eaten strange candy, parents should closely monitor their child's expression.
"Usually, if there is a problem with food, the child will have reactions and symptoms after 15-30 minutes of eating. If the child has symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, or irritability, fatigue, shortness of breath, they should be taken to the nearest medical facility to be handled by doctors ," said Dr. Nguyen.
The doctor also warns that strange candies come in many varieties, not only posing a risk of poisoning, but more dangerous can also contain addictive substances, which is extremely dangerous for young children.
