On June 9, Ho Chi Minh City Police in coordination with Phong Phu Commune Police (Binh Chanh District) invited a subject involved in the case of dumping a large quantity of functional foods right on the side of Nguyen Van Linh Street, causing a stir in public opinion.
Previously, images extracted from the traffic surveillance camera system showed a three-wheeled vehicle carrying many boxes of goods approaching the roadside area, then suddenly stopping and dumping all the goods. Based on this data, the authorities quickly followed the clues and identified the driver of the vehicle.
At the police station, this person confessed that he was hired by a stranger to transport the above goods to that exact location and after completing the job, he received the payment as agreed. Currently, the identity of the hirer is still being investigated and clarified.
Ho Chi Minh City authorities are urgently investigating the case of a large amount of functional foods being dumped in an empty lot along Nguyen Van Linh Street (Phong Phu Commune, Binh Chanh District), causing a stir in public opinion and raising questions about the act of disposing of goods of unknown origin.
The scene showed signs of being burned to destroy evidence.
The incident was discovered at around 11:00 a.m. on June 6, when the Phong Phu Commune People's Committee received a report from local residents about a series of containers suspected to be functional foods being dumped for unknown reasons. The local government immediately directed the commune police force to coordinate in blocking off the scene, recording and conducting initial inspections.
Through inspection, the authorities determined that there were at least 5 different locations in the area where the evidence was gathered. The dumped goods were mostly functional foods with intact packaging and long expiry dates. Many products had full labels, including:
Homramin Ginseng Extract (Manufacturer: 15/01/2025 â Expiry date: 15/01/2028)
Vitamin Pharvita Plus (Manufacturer: June 10, 2024 â Expiry date: June 10, 2027)
Ginlobin Citicolin Omega 3 (Manufacturer: June 10, 2024 â Expiry date: June 10, 2027)
In addition, the authorities also discovered many nutritional supplements for children scattered around the scene. Notably, an area of about 20 square meters in the yard was completely burned. Many containers were burned here, raising the suspicion that someone intentionally burned the goods to destroy evidence and avoid detection.
Dumping illegally for many nights, people are worried
Residents living near the scene reported that the dumping of goods in this area had been going on for several nights before. Many three-wheeled vehicles had secretly appeared at night, quickly dumped their goods, and then left in a flash. Because the incident happened late at night, with limited light, residents were unable to record the license plate number or stop it.
"Every morning around 1-2am, we hear the sound of three-wheeled vehicles. When we open the door, we see goods scattered everywhere, but no one dares to come near for fear of danger," said a local resident.
Police are taking drastic action to find the tenant and the owner of the goods.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City Police are closely coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and relevant authorities to verify the identity of the person who hired the vehicle to transport the above goods, and at the same time track down the real owner of the dumped batch of functional foods.
The authorities are also examining all seized items to determine the nature and level of danger of these products. In case of detecting counterfeit, prohibited or substandard products, the case may be handled criminally.
The case is currently under further investigation to clarify the true motive behind the mysterious dumping and burning of goods.
The incident not only raises big questions about the origin and true purpose of the dumped functional foods, but also sounds the alarm about the situation of trading, transporting, and handling medical goods of unknown origin that is secretly taking place. The fact that products that may be related to public health are thrown away, even burned in the middle of residential areas, makes people confused and worried.
