Hanoi: Fire breaks out at a bar on Pho Duc Chinh Street, initial cause determined

On the evening of August 16, a two-story bar at 67 Pho Duc Chinh, Truc Bach Ward (Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) suddenly caught fire. The fire broke out strongly, black smoke billowed, forcing many residents in the neighborhood to evacuate.

According to An Ninh Thu Do, at around 7:00 p.m. on August 16, a fire broke out at house number 67 Pho Duc Chinh, Truc Bach ward, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi. It is known that the location of the fire was a bar that was under repair.

After a few minutes, the fire quickly spread to flammable objects, so from the outside, one could see the windows and fire escapes on the top floor of the house glowing red from the flames. At the same time, the burning smell and dust from the fire rose high and spread around, affecting the entire area. Many people said that because the incident happened during rush hour, traffic was congested.

Immediately after discovering the fire, people reported it to the local authorities and called 114. Afterwards, the authorities of Truc Bach ward and Ba Dinh district promptly implemented on-site fire fighting plans to prevent the fire from spreading, and at the same time, diverted traffic from a distance so that firefighters could promptly perform their duties.

According to some sources, Mr. X., an employee of a milk tea shop near the scene, said: "At around 6:30 p.m., I was working when I suddenly heard people shouting fire. A moment later, the authorities arrived to put out the fire. At first, the fire was basically under control. But after the authorities broke the wall to get inside, the fire flared up again fiercely."

X. added that at around 8:00 p.m., the authorities carried a firefighter on a stretcher from inside the scene to the outside.

Working as a security guard at a kindergarten near the fire, Mr. P. said: "At around 6:30 p.m., I heard a commotion and went outside to observe. I saw people running from the direction of the fire, shouting 'fire, fire'. About 15 minutes later, several fire trucks arrived. The fire was very big and the smoke was thick. I was about 100 meters away and still had difficulty breathing. Everyone had to wear masks. Initially, the authorities were able to put out the fire from the outside, but when they broke the wall to get inside, the fire flared up again. After that, I saw an ambulance carrying a soldier away from the scene."

Meanwhile, Ms. T., a resident of the area where the fire broke out, shared: "At around 7 p.m., I was sitting down to eat when I suddenly heard the sound of a fire truck. When I ran outside, I saw the street was filled with smoke. After that, the power to my house was cut off. That's when I realized there was a fire at the bar.

I was so scared, afraid that the fire would spread to my house. I and everyone in the house quickly ran outside. At first, I saw the firefighters basically put out the fire outside. At around 8:00 p.m., the fire flared up again. A moment later, I saw a comrade being carried onto an ambulance on a stretcher, another comrade limping, probably injured during the fire fighting process."

Ms. T. added that this bar was under renovation so no one was inside at the time of the fire.

According to information from Tin Tuc newspaper, on the evening of August 16, the authorities of Truc Bach ward said that the fire on Pho Duc Chinh street had been basically controlled; people from the Pho Duc Chinh - Ngu Xa intersection to the area adjacent to Mac Dinh Chi Secondary School were evacuated to a safe place. Work to prevent the fire from recurring was still being carried out. The information that there were fatalities was false. The initial cause of the fire was determined to be due to a welder cutting iron, causing a fire.

Regarding the information about injured firefighters, the authorities of Truc Bach Ward said: One firefighter was injured in the leg while fighting the fire and was taken to Hoe Nhai General Hospital; another firefighter suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to Hong Ngoc Hospital. Currently, the health of the two firefighters has recovered and is undergoing examination, and their lives are not in danger.
