According to the case file, in April 2000, Binh was sentenced to 6 months in prison by the People's Court of Pleiku City, Gia Lai for "Theft of property" (motorbike). While being detained at the Pleiku City Police Detention Center, on September 22, 2000, Binh, along with Leo Van Khang, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Nguyen Duc Toan, and Ly Thanh Tam, "physically impacted" Huynh Van Hay (also being detained at the Pleiku City Police Detention Center), causing the victim to pass away forever.

After that, Gia Lai Provincial People's Court sentenced Binh to 20 years in prison for two crimes of "Murder" and "Theft of property". On December 15, 2001, Binh and two other subjects Ngo Van Dung and Bui Tien Duc broke the cell door latch and escaped from detention. On December 16, 2001, the Criminal Police Department of Gia Lai Provincial Police issued a wanted notice for Dang Dinh Binh for the crimes of "Murder and Theft of property".

After successfully escaping, Binh went into hiding in many places in Ca Mau, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City... changing his name and using fake documents under the name Truong Dinh Trung (born in 1977, hometown An Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh).

Not only that, Binh also asked others to help establish many companies operating in the field of security services - bodyguards in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong with him as the General Director to hide and avoid being arrested by the authorities.
