An Phu karaoke body case: Suspected to be Chinese, awaiting DNA testing

More than 2 years since the horrific fire at An Phu karaoke bar that killed 32 victims, the scene of this bar suddenly revealed the body of an adult in a state of decomposition.

As of 1 p.m. on October 16, the Binh Duong Provincial Police Department was still blocking off the scene to investigate the case of a dismembered body at An Phu karaoke bar. The incident was discovered thanks to a report from a Youtuber named T., 30 years old, from An Giang.

Previously, at noon on October 5, Mr. T. went to An Phu karaoke to film. When he saw part of a body, he was very scared and immediately left the scene and ran back to his hometown. After that, the male YouTuber realized that he had to report it, so he called the local police station where the karaoke establishment was located to provide information about the incident.

Upon receiving the news, the police quickly arrived at the scene to investigate. According to VietNamNet, in addition to the severed hand, the authorities found the rest of the body in a water hole in the restaurant's premises.

The body was covered with a lot of trash and scrap on top, only revealing the badly decomposed head resting on the edge of the hole. Therefore, the person who discovered it reported to the authorities that only the head and hands were there. Initially, the body was identified as an adult male, wearing shorts, a t-shirt and sneakers. Except for the decomposed head and right hand, the rest of the body was intact.

According to Tien Phong, Binh Duong Province Police are taking DNA samples to determine identity after someone came to identify the body with characteristics that matched their statements. These people said that the foreign man named LQL left home on September 14 and did not bring his phone.

Mr. L. lives in Viet Sing residential area (about 2km from the scene of An Phu karaoke bar). When he left home, L. was wearing black shorts and a light-colored short-sleeved T-shirt. Previously, his relatives had posted a notice looking for him, but more than a month had passed and there was still no sign of him. Today, they received a report that they had found the body of a man at An Phu karaoke bar, so they went to look for him and found that he had characteristics quite similar to Mr. L.

According to relatives, in recent months the victim has shown signs of depression, not working but wandering the streets and alleys at night in An Phu Ward. Through security camera footage, the police determined that Mr. L.'s last appearance in the Viet Sing Residential Area was on September 14.

It is likely that the man had wandered into the abandoned An Phu karaoke bar, located on the frontage of 22/12 Street (An Phu Ward), the main door was broken and left empty. Observations by Thanh Nien reporters at the scene showed that there were many types of trash, dirt, plastic bottles, fresh coconut shells... showing that many people had gone inside to eat and litter.

It is known that An Phu karaoke is an abandoned facility that has not been reused since the terrible fire that killed 32 people more than two years ago, which has attracted much attention from the public and the press.

Remember, on the night of September 6, 2022, when An Phu karaoke bar located on the frontage of Tran Quang Dieu street (old Bui Thi Xuan street, An Phu ward, Thuan An city, Binh Duong province) was operating, it suddenly caught fire, smoke and fire billowed up after a few minutes. Many customers and staff of the bar were trapped in the singing rooms, more than 20 others ran to the top floor or jumped to the ground to escape.

Upon receiving the fire alarm, Binh Duong Provincial Police mobilized 8 fire trucks, ladder trucks, professional vehicles and more than 60 officers and soldiers to the scene to put out the fire and rescue the victims. At about 9:30 p.m. the same day, the fire was basically under control, however, the fire was still smoldering in the rooms inside.

Rescue forces were able to bring 22 people trapped on the rooftop down to safety. However, dozens of other guests and employees were unfortunately still trapped in the karaoke rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors, of which the 3rd floor area had many victims and the complex design made it difficult for authorities to access.

By 8:00 p.m., the rescue team of Binh Duong Provincial Police and Ho Chi Minh City Police had completed the search for victims. As of the evening of the same day, 32 victims had died from suffocation and fire inside the karaoke rooms. All were found in a state of blackened and deformed charring, making identification difficult.
