Truck crashes into house, killing 6 people: Driver's alcohol level results, heartbreaking details

After causing a serious accident that killed 6 people, the truck driver was detained by the police for investigation. Recently, the alcohol concentration results of the subject were also announced.
On January 13, the Traffic Safety Committee of Nghe An province officially informed about the traffic accident that killed 6 people in Ky Son district. Accordingly, at about 5:00 p.m. on January 12, at Km 21 800, Provincial Road 543D, in Tham Hin village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district (a border commune, bordering Laos, about 60km from the district center), an especially serious traffic accident occurred.

A truck carrying dong leaves with license plate 37C-537.xx (1.5 ton vehicle) was traveling from Na Ngoi commune to Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, driven by Mr. Vu Van Hao (born in 1982, residing in Con Muong village, Luu Kien commune, Tuong Duong district) going downhill when he lost control and crashed into a house.

The accident killed 6 people (5 died on the spot, 1 died while being treated at the hospital). At the scene of the accident, part of the house used to sell groceries was collapsed and damaged by the truck. The victims were crushed by the truck along with concrete blocks and motorbikes lying around. The identities of the unfortunate victims include: VTP (born in 2018), VXĐ. (born in 2016), V.YD. (born in 2005), VYM (born in 2014), VYD (born in 2023) and LTK, all residing in Nam Can commune.

According to the leader of Nam Can Commune People's Committee, the victims are related to each other, and their family circumstances are quite difficult. Among the 4 children who were injured, 2 of them lived with their grandmother because their parents worked far away.

"The six dead belonged to three families, including two poor households and one near-poor household. The people of Nam Can commune in particular and Ky Son district in general have a high rate of poor households and their lives still face many difficulties. The accident happened near Tet, which was a great pain and loss. The locality has tried its best to support the families of the victims. The leaders of the district and commune were present at the families to encourage and share their feelings," Lao Dong newspaper quoted Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Son district, as saying.

It is known that after the accident, the Traffic Safety Committee of Nghe An province visited and supported each victim with 5 million VND; Ky Son District People's Committee also supported each victim with 15 million VND. In addition, Nghe An Provincial Police supported each victim with 2 million VND, Ky Son District Police supported each victim with 5 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Son District, Nghe An Province, said that the district police have temporarily detained Vu Van Hao, the truck driver, to assist in the investigation. Upon inspection, the truck was inspected only 2 months ago; the driver had no alcohol or illegal substances.

The National Traffic Safety Committee and the People's Committee of Nghe An province have directed the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, along with leaders of relevant departments and branches, to coordinate with the People's Committee of Ky Son district and local authorities to directly go to the scene, inspect and direct the handling of the consequences of the incident.

Also on January 13, Phu Nhuan District Police (HCMC) are investigating a series of accidents in the area. At around 8:30 a.m., a man driving a 4-seat car with a HCMC license plate was traveling on Hoang Van Thu Street, heading from Tan Son Nhat Airport to Phu Nhuan intersection.

When arriving at alley 229 Hoang Van Thu street, ward 8, this vehicle suddenly hit many motorbikes and cars going in the same direction. Next, the 4-seat car rushed into the yard of an apartment building about 50m away from the original location, hit several more parked cars and stopped.

Initial reports showed that 8 motorbikes and 5 cars were damaged. Some injured motorcyclists were taken to the hospital. The 4-seater car promptly deployed its airbags so the male driver was not injured. Phu Nhuan District authorities then arrived at the scene to block off and investigate the cause of the accident. Initially, authorities did not detect alcohol levels in the male driver.
