"Wearing the guise of an ambulance" to go to a drunken "drunken storm": "Monster drivers" go to the ward to pay fines!

On January 6, 2025, the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police announced a violation involving an ambulance driver carrying fans to participate in the victory celebration after the 2024 ASEAN Cup final between the Vietnamese and Thai teams.

After the victory of the Vietnamese team against Thailand in the final of the 2024 ASEAN Cup, thousands of fans poured into the streets to celebrate the victory. This celebration takes place not only in major cities but also in many regions across the country. Hanoi, where many major events are held, has mobilized the maximum traffic police force to ensure traffic order and safety while crowds pour into the streets.

At about 23:55, the working group of the Road Traffic Team No. 14 discovered a car BKS 30E-741.xx, bearing an ambulance sign, moving on Nghiem Xuan Yem Street (Hoang Mai district) - one of the key roads of the capital. It is worth noting that this car is not carrying patients, but is carrying a group of fans participating in the "storm" to celebrate the football victory.

When conducting the inspection, the functional forces detected that the driver showed signs of serious violations. What particularly surprised many people was that this ambulance was equipped with priority equipment (flashing lights, horns) and plastered with the ambulance logo, which made it possible to move quickly through the crowd without hindrance.

The driver of the ambulance was examined and identified as L.T.H. (born in 1991, hometown in Yen Dinh district, Thanh Hoa province). During the working process, Mr. H. failed to present many important documents such as driver's license, vehicle registration, technical safety and environmental protection inspection stamp of this ambulance that has expired for more than a month.

In particular, when tested for alcohol concentration, driver H. had a violation level of up to 0.514 mg/L, exceeding the maximum threshold of 0.4 mg/L according to the provisions of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP on sanctioning administrative violations in the field of road traffic.

Based on the violations of the L.T.H. driver, the traffic police made a record of administrative violations with errors including using priority equipment for improper purposes, violating the alcohol concentration exceeding the permissible level and not having a driver's license and related documents. With the above errors, the L.T.H. driver was fined a total of more than 60 million VND. The ambulance was also detained to continue investigating and handling related violations.

The act of using ambulances to participate in football festivals and violating alcohol content not only endangers drivers but also affects the image of the health sector and authorities. An ambulance is a priority vehicle in traffic and has the task of treating patients and responding to emergency situations. The abuse of ambulances for personal purposes not only violates the law but also loses people's trust in emergency and medical services.

Moreover, the driver's serious violation of alcohol concentration while in traffic is a direct danger to himself and other road users. The Hanoi Traffic Police has warned all people, especially in major events such as football tournaments, to strictly comply with traffic regulations, ensuring the safety of themselves and those around them. Traffic violations will be handled resolutely, without exception.

The driver of the L.T.H. and the ambulance paid the price for their behavior with heavy fines, as well as a lesson for those who lack awareness in obeying traffic laws. Hopefully, this incident will help raise public awareness and promote serious action in complying with traffic regulations.
