Flash flood in Nu village: Found 2 more missing cases, identified

Authorities found one more case of flash flood in Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai) on September 27, bringing the total number of people who died to 58.
On the afternoon of September 27, information from the Search and Rescue Command Center in Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province) showed that by 5:00 p.m. the same day, the search team (using an excavator) had found another person in the flash flood that occurred in the early morning of September 10, according to VTC News.
Lao Cai Newspaper reported that the case found was identified as Hoang Thi Quyen (born in 1990). It is known that Ms. Quyen's family has 4 members, running a small grocery business in the village.
Her husband, Hoang Van Tuan (born in 1987), was buried in the rubble and was found on September 10. Her second son, Hoang Gia Bao (born in 2017), was swept away and was discovered by local people and promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
The eldest son, Hoang Xuan Phuc (born in 2009), was lucky to escape because before the flood, his father took him to Pho Rang town (Bao Yen district) to enroll in Bao Yen Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities.
Previously, on the evening of September 26, information from the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department stated that as of 6 p.m. the same day, forces had found another missing person in the landslide in Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai).
The victim was identified as Nguyen Van Vu (born in 1992). Immediately after being brought up, the victim was disinfected, cleaned and handed over to local authorities and relatives for burial.
It is known that Mr. Vu's family has 4 people who are all confirmed dead or missing.
Currently, Lao Cai province authorities are still mobilizing hundreds of local people and equipment, excavators... to focus on participating in the search for missing cases.
Up to now, the total number of deaths and missing people in Lang Nu is 67, of which 9 are missing. The number of people confirmed safe is 87.
Previously, on September 24, all 300 soldiers of Division 316 (Military Region 2) withdrew from the landslide scene in Lang Nu village. Border guards and sniffer dogs were also ordered to withdraw from the scene.
After the officers and soldiers of Military Region 2 withdrew from Lang Nu, nearly 200 people from Bao Yen District Military Command, militia, and machinery teams continued to search for another 5 days, until September 30.
The search area focuses on 6 locations that have been zoned. After 5 days, the province and district will continue to meet with the people to ask for their opinions to come up with the next plan.
Nu Village is located at the foot of Voi Mountain, where 167 households with 760 Tay people have lived for many generations. The flash flood in the early morning of September 10 buried 37 households and affected 158 people.
On September 21, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee started construction and reconstruction of Lang Nu residential area, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district.
Accordingly, the Lang Nu resettlement area phase I is built on an area of about 10 hectares, arranged about 1,000 m2/household; 40 houses are built with 2 floors (area 8x12m), designed in the style of traditional Tay stilt houses with auxiliary works (kitchen, toilet...).
In addition to the resettlement area, auxiliary works such as cultural houses, schools, infrastructure works (roads, electricity, water, etc.) are all being constructed to ensure stable and long-term living for the people. The construction will be undertaken by the 12th Army Corps.
After the groundbreaking ceremony, the construction units will focus on speeding up the progress, organizing 3 shifts and 4 teams to complete the entire project by December 31, helping people have a new place to live.
Construction funding comes from socialized sources, Vietnam Association of Architects is responsible for design.
