Since giving birth, N has become fat, visibly slimmer, and her child's constant illness makes her feel tired and self-conscious when communicating with people. Seeing her colleagues dressed up, she began to search online to buy makeup and clothes in the hope of helping herself to be better. However, the earlier she bought it, the more comfortable she felt and the more excited she became. That's why when she is tired and pressured, she goes shopping online, and N gradually becomes addicted to it.

N's husband said, N not only spends all his salary on shopping, but even borrows from friends, opens a credit card to swipe first and pay later to satisfy his craving for shopping. Over time, the amount of debt increased, N could not afford to pay and was afraid of her husband's discovery, so she became frustrated and angry with her husband whenever asked.

According to Dr. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long (Room M7 - Institute of Mental Health, Bach Mai Hospital), Ms. N came to the hospital in a state of insomnia, anxiety and very irritable. Then, N was diagnosed with postpartum depression, leading to an addiction to shopping for psychological relief. The doctor prescribed her outpatient treatment and helped N control her behavior.

Not only Ms. N, Dr. Doctor Nguyen Thanh Long said that in the past time, the hospital also received a number of other cases of psychological counseling because of shopping experience. According to Dr. Long, these cases are mostly seen in middle-aged women.

The items that L often spend money to buy include cosmetics, clothes, household items... even though they and their family have no need to use them.

"Every 15th of every month, when I have a salary, I have to order something, sometimes I even open my wardrobe and ask myself: Why are there so many clothes? There are dresses I have never worn. came, but bought other ones", Ms. L said.

As a result, when Ms. L had spent all her salary, she swiped her credit card vigorously, until the debt amount reached nearly 40 million dong, she honestly declared it to her husband. Because of that, the couple often quarreled, the more they argued, the more L thought about it, and had to find a way to make money to pay the debt, which caused insomnia, weight loss, and had to go to a mental hospital for examination. Here, doctors diagnosed L with addiction to shopping behavior and supported treatment with a combination of methods.

Before this situation, psychology master Dang Thi Hai Yen, Institute of Mental Health (Bach Mai Hospital) said that in modern society the use of credit cards "buy first, pay later" is very common. leading to many cases of shopping addiction, falling into debt at any time.

Often, cases of uncontrolled shopping will lead to other mental disorders such as anxiety and depression. These disorders create a motivation for the patient to carry out shopping behavior, only when buying the item they want, the patient will have a feeling of satisfaction and relieve stress.

Therefore, in order to avoid having a pathology like the two cases above, each person needs to adjust their own shopping behavior accordingly, it is necessary to have a reasonable spending plan so as not to fall into debt.
