Ho Chi Minh City: Rescue of a young man suspected of being stoned and dancing on a light pole

When people discovered that the young man had unusual symptoms climbing up a tens of meters high electric pole, they reported it to the police. Dozens of police had to block Highway 22 near An Suong intersection to rescue.

At noon on March 22, the Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Team, Hoc Mon District Police (Ho Chi Minh City) coordinated with relevant units to successfully rescue a young man who climbed a light pole on Highway 22.

Before that, around 8:00 a.m. on the same day, people near Highway 22 near the intersection with Nguyen Anh Thu Street (bordering Trung My Tay Ward, District 12 and Ba Diem Commune, Hoc Mon District) saw a young man with unusual manifestations, suspected of being stoned.

After that, this person walked to the middle of Highway 22 and climbed up the high-pressure light pole with the double lever in the middle of the median strip. This lamppost is about 20m high. Even though passersby shouted not to climb up, the young man still moved to the steel bar across and stood on it.

Receiving the news, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police and Hoc Mon District Police sent two specialized vehicles and soldiers to the scene to try to rescue this person. The Fire and Rescue Police and District 12 Police were also present to coordinate the rescue.

In the hot sun, the police brought a ladder truck to approach and mobilize, but the young man did not cooperate. Below, the police used specialized vehicles to catch and catch this person in case he fell.

The incident caused serious traffic congestion on Highway 22, Highway 1 and roads near An Suong intersection. At times, the police had to block a lane to continue the rescue.

At nearly 11 a.m., while campaigning and persuading, the police approached and controlled the young man, then brought him to the ground safely. Currently, this person has been handed over to the Police of Trung My Tay Ward, District 12 for inspection, documentation, and handling.

According to many experts in the field of health and criminal psychology research, "stoned addiction" is a symptom that occurs in a short period of time. Therefore, to ensure long-term safety for yourself and those around you, you need to have skills in recognizing meth addicts.

Signs of a person being "stoned" can include: Pupils widen, eyes rolling continuously; go to the toilet and wash hands frequently; drink lots of water; Dark circles on eyes are very obvious; wrinkled skin; lack of appetite causes people to lose weight quickly in a short period of time; distraction; "meth mouth" - meaning: There are cavities, black teeth, missing teeth and painful red gums; frequent sweating that smells like cat urine; foul and rotten tooth odor; often have paranoid thoughts, suspecting that someone is following them to harm them; no need to sleep; itching in many skin areas all over the body; Mood swings or hallucinations of "ants crawling under the skin" syndrome...etc.

Experts recommend that if you discover that a loved one is "stoned" and can still control it, you need to help, reassure, and let the subject drink plenty of water to reduce the hallucinogenic effects of meth. If you notice that the subject shows unusual or aggressive behavior, you must evacuate the elderly and children to a safe place and report to the authorities for assistance.

When you are walking and encountering someone who is "stoned", you can move in another direction. Absolutely do not curiously stand and watch the subject's behavior or risk getting close.

In case you are suddenly controlled by the subject and cannot escape or fight back in time, you must rely on and follow the subject's requests. At the same time, the person being controlled must be calm and not scream or cry because it will make the subject more agitated and prone to dangerous behavior that can cause injury. When the subject appears calmer, it is necessary to gently ask them what their needs are and what help they need, in order to prolong the waiting time for fully qualified authorities to coordinate and handle the matter.
