The representative of SPS Vietnam Office also affirmed that according to regulations, Ethylene Oxide is absolutely not used to produce the above two noodle products, both in Vietnam and in other countries around the world. Before the EU's warnings about the risk of food insecurity, Mr. Nam said that businesses need to carefully study and update information on the SPS regulations of the import market and strictly comply with the regulations of the EU. each of those markets.
Specifically, if exporting food and agricultural products to the EU, businesses must comply with EU regulations and standards. When having such information, businesses are required to review the entire process from the origin of raw materials, production, processing, packaging, transportation... focusing on hazards. In principle, all export shipments must have original records with full information on hazard control throughout the production process.
Earlier on August 20, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued a notice to recall a number of batches of instant noodles, Hao Hao and Good, manufactured by Acecook Vietnam, containing Ethylene Oxide. . This substance is harmful to human health and is not allowed to be used in food distributed in the European Union (EU).
According to the notice on fsai.ie, there are currently 3 product lines on the FSAI's recall list, including 2 Vietnamese products, Hao Hao spicy and sour shrimp noodles and Good vermicelli with pork ribs flavor - all made by Acecook company. Vietnamese production; and 1 product of Chinese origin - Yato noodles with seafood flavor.
Although the consumption of products contaminated with Ethylene Oxide does not pose an acute health hazard, it can cause cancer if used regularly for a long time, the FSAI said. Therefore, consumers need to limit their exposure to this substance. Therefore, FSAI has decided to recall the above batch of products at the points of sale responsible for distribution.
On August 28, the EU continued to issue a warning on the "Dried noodles with chicken and beefspices" product of Thien Huong Food Joint Stock Company in English and recalled this item in the market. Norway.
A representative of Acecook Vietnam said that the recalled shipment is an export product, not related to domestic products in Vietnam. The enterprise confirms that it does not use Ethylene Oxide technology at any stage of production and is conducting analysis, testing and investigation on a large scale.
Meanwhile, a representative of Thien Huong Company said that the recalled batch of beef and chicken-flavored dry noodles is an export processing product according to a partner's own order in Norway. The company also affirms that all products are strictly processed, without using Ethylene Oxide in any stage.
In addition to providing samples to the regulatory agency, Thien Huong is testing, screening, analyzing and evaluating on a large scale at all stages of raw materials, equipment, processing/manufacturing processes. The company will also verify the information of processed products in the Norwegian market.
Earlier, at the end of 2020, Korea also recalled a number of packaged pho of Acecook Vietnam Joint Stock Company because it is believed to contain levels of Benzo(a)pyrene exceeding the standard value in flavoring oils found in the product.
