The landslide in Ha Giang has left many people injured, dead and missing. Authorities have just found the victim who livestreamed and gave a warning before being buried.
On the afternoon of September 30, speaking with reporters, the Party Secretary and People's Committee Secretary of Viet Vinh Commune, Bac Quang District, Ha Giang Province confirmed that the authorities had just found a male body, one of the missing victims in the landslide that occurred in the area.
News from Ha Giang Provincial Police also said that at 12:30 noon the same day, the authorities found Mr. T.D.D, one of the missing victims in the landslide in Nam Buong village, Viet Vinh commune, Bac Quang district, Ha Giang province.
It is known that yesterday (September 29), at the time of the landslide, while Mr. D. was using his phone to livestream, he was unfortunately buried by the soil and went missing. According to the clip saved on D.'s personal page, before the mountain completely collapsed, people who witnessed it with him from afar discovered trees and rocks slowly flowing down.
At the same time, there were many vehicles on Highway 2. Mr. D. held his phone to record and broadcast live, along with that, this man continuously reminded people to quickly leave the area, some people around were also warned by the victim to find a safe place to stand.
At the end of the clip, Mr. D. witnessed the mountain suddenly collapse very quickly and only had time to record images of a few people on motorbikes being buried, a few cars covered in rocks and soil, and shouted a few more sentences before the accident happened.
As of noon on September 30, under heavy rain, the search for missing victims of the landslide in Nam Buong village is still being carried out very urgently. Due to the heavy and prolonged rain in the landslide area, the search work encountered difficulties in terms of weather, geology, and transportation of rescue vehicles.
Currently, cracks are appearing on the hill near the landslide area on National Highway 2, and the risk of landslides may continue. According to initial statistics, the landslide with more than tens of thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil, about 200 meters high and about 300 meters long occurred on the morning of September 29, causing traffic on National Highway 2 to be completely paralyzed.
The landslide also caused 8 houses to collapse completely and 11 houses to be affected; 6 vehicles were pushed down the slope by thousands of cubic meters of landslides. At the time of the landslide, a vehicle's dashcam recorded the moment the hill suddenly collapsed while the vehicles were traveling on Highway 2.
Among them, 1 passenger bus, many cars and motorbikes were pushed several meters away by the landslide. Up to now, the authorities have found 3 bodies of victims in the landslide. The authorities have also rescued 8 injured people.
After heavy rains on the night of September 28 to the early morning of September 29, cracks appeared in some localities in Ha Giang province. Implementing the "4 on-site" motto, local authorities urgently evacuated people in areas at high risk of landslides to safe places, ensuring people's daily lives.
Mr. Hoang Van Dieu, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yen Ha commune (Quang Binh district, Ha Giang), said that after receiving information from the people about a large, long crack appearing on the top of the hill of hamlet 2, Chang Moi village (Yen Ha commune, Quang Binh), there was a very high risk of landslides.
After sending officers to the scene to check, it was found that the crack on the top of the hill was about 30-40m long, 15-20cm wide and split into two layers. Below there was a stream, valley, and residential area located right at the foot of the hill.
Assessing the high risk of landslides and the continued rain, with the motto "4 on-site", the Yen Ha commune authorities urgently mobilized and evacuated people and property of seven households with 28 members in hamlet 2, Chang Moi village to temporarily stay with relatives. In addition, the commune also evacuated three households in the village located in areas with high risk of landslides to a safe place.
