Market Management Team No. 7 (Market Management Department of Phu Tho province) is temporarily detaining more than 23,460 processed bird's nest products manufactured by Tuan Duong & TKT Bird's Nest Company Limited, headquartered in Thanh Son town, Thanh Son district, Phu Tho province.
According to information from the Market Management Department of Phu Tho province, the testing results of the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene showed that all 8 samples of bird's nest products taken for testing did not meet the main quality criteria compared to the content that the facility had self-declared.
Specifically, the protein content in the samples only reached 18% to 58% of the declared level, while the lipid (fat) content only reached about 3% of the value stated on the product label.
On June 18, Market Management Team No. 7 (Market Management Department of Phu Tho province) made a record of the meeting with the representative of Tuan Duong & TKT Bird's Nest Company Limited, a unit headquartered in Thanh Son town, Thanh Son district, Phu Tho province, regarding the batch of processed bird's nest products that did not meet quality standards and were being temporarily detained.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Health and the Economic Police Department, Phu Tho Provincial Police. Based on the testing results of the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene, the authorities determined that more than 23,460 bird's nest products of this company were counterfeit, specifically counterfeit in quality compared to the self-declared product.
Previously, Market Management Team No. 7 randomly took samples from the detained bird's nest shipment to send to the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene for testing. The results showed that all 8 product samples did not meet the main quality standards, especially the two main components, protein and lipid, which are of interest to consumers when choosing bird's nest products.
Specifically, the protein content in the samples was only 18% to 58% of the declared level, while the lipid (fat) content was only about 3% of the value stated on the product label. This shows that the actual quality of the product does not match the declared information, deceiving consumers and showing clear signs of commercial fraud.
This is an important factor in determining the production and circulation of counterfeit food products, which seriously affects public health and the reputation of the functional food and food supplement market.
According to information from the Market Management Department of Phu Tho province, the total value of the illegal shipment is estimated to be over 900 million VND. With a large number of illegal products, the impact of the incident is not limited to the local area but can spread widely if not promptly detected and handled.
Based on the test results, case records and signs of serious violations, Market Management Team No. 7 has determined that there are signs of the crime of "Production and trading of counterfeit food, foodstuffs and food additives" according to the provisions of the Penal Code.
Immediately afterwards, the entire case file and evidence of the violation were transferred to the Investigation Police Agency, Phu Tho Provincial Police for further investigation and handling according to the provisions of law.
This is considered a resolute move by the authorities of Phu Tho province in the fight against counterfeit and poor quality goods, especially in the food sector - where fraud can cause serious consequences to public health.
Bird's nest is a product trusted by many consumers because it is advertised as nutritious and good for health, especially for the elderly, children and postpartum women. However, this incident is a strong warning to consumers: not all products labeled "bird's nest" are guaranteed to be of good quality.
Consumers need to be especially careful when choosing functional foods, prioritizing products with clear origins, carefully checking label information, and ingredients with clear origins. In addition, they need to be wary of products that are widely sold on social networks and e-commerce platforms at unusually low prices.
