Regarding the case of Vietnam Joint Stock Company being reported to have sold pork that did not meet veterinary hygiene standards, causing public concern recently, the authorities of Hau Giang province have taken specific steps in handling related officials.
Recently, Mr. Trinh Hung Cuong, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Aquatic Products of Hau Giang province, said that the unit has identified the violation of Mr. Nguyen Long Cuong, an official of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Phung Hiep district. Mr. Cuong is the person directly responsible for controlling the work at the Dung Nga pig processing facility (Long Thanh commune, Phung Hiep district) where the batch of sick pigs of the CP Company was discovered but was still stamped with an illegal quarantine stamp.
According to Mr. Cuong, the initial inspection and reporting process showed that Mr. Cuong had not fully performed his assigned responsibilities and violated veterinary quarantine procedures. Based on the provisions of the Law on Civil Servants and related legal documents, the functional sector of Hau Giang province is conducting the process of handling violating officials according to their authority.
This information was released in the context of public outrage after the press reported that the CP Company's suspected infected pork was found to have a legal quarantine stamp. According to the report of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicin.e sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the incident occurred on the night of March 26, 2022, when the Phung Hiep District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicin.e Station assigned Mr. Cuong to directly carry out inspection work at the above facility.
During that shift, a total of 35 pigs were brought in, divided into batches of 5 to 7 pigs at a time. However, during the inspection, Mr. Cuong did not carefully inspect both sides of the pig's body but only stamped quarantine on one side of the carcass. Later, when he discovered that the other side of the carcass had many inflammatory spots, signs of not meeting veterinary hygiene standards, Mr. Cuong did not stamp quarantine on the other side and requested the facility to destroy this part of the meat.
It is worth mentioning that the discovery of diseased pork occurred after the quarantine stamp had been stamped on a part of the carcass, creating a great risk if not strictly controlled. According to Mr. Cuong's statement, he was present and supervised the processing of the substandard meat, specifically boiling it to convert its intended use to aquatic feed. However, he did not make a record confirming the status of the diseased pork, nor did he fully implement the veterinary hygiene control procedures as prescribed in Circular 09/2016/TT-BNNPTNT. Instead, he only signed the request for destruction prepared by the Joint Stock Company.
This practice seriously violates the process of controlling and handling animals and animal products that do not ensure safety, poses risks to consumers' health and undermines confidence in the quarantine system.
At the same time, an individual named Lieu Quy Ngan (40 years old, residing in My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province) spoke up to accuse Vietnam Joint Stock Company of deliberately mixing diseased pork into the meat supply to the market. The police agency received the information and invited Mr. Ngan to work to verify the content of the accusatio.n. The case is currently under investigation.
In another development, on the evening of June 12, the Hanoi Interdisciplinary Inspection Team conducted a surprise inspection of pig processing at Factory No. 3 of CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, located in Phu Nghia Industrial Park, Chuong My District. This is the next move by the authorities to tighten food control procedures after a series of negative public comments.
According to the plan, in June 2025, Hanoi city will continue to organize inspections at 35 large and small establishments in the area, mainly concentrated in Thanh Tri, Thanh Oai, Chuong My, Phu Xuyen, Thuong Tin, Dan Phuong, Dong Anh and Gia Lam districts. The goal is to promptly detect violations and rectify the work of ensuring food safety from the livestock stage to the people's dining table.
The incident involving the CP Company is becoming a warning bell about loopholes in veterinary control and work in localities. Strictly handling the offending officials is expected to be a necessary step to restore consumer confidence and ensure transparency and seriousness in the livestock industry.
