Recently, public opinion has been particularly interested in the story of Venerable Thich Chan Quang not being on the list of candidates and the score sheet in the 1989 high school supplementary graduation exam of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City .
At the same time, his name was not on the list of people awarded high school diplomas for supplementary cultural courses on June 6, 1989 by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
This incident has raised questions about the qualifications of the abbot of Thien Ton Phat Quang Pagoda in Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Many people believe that Venerable Thich Chan Quang never attended high school and does not have a high school diploma. However, this person has a university degree, a bachelor's degree, and even a doctorate in law.
While the matter has not yet been resolved, recently, on social networks, an image of the signboard of the pagoda where Venerable Thich Chan Quang presides (Phu My town, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) suddenly changed its name.
Accordingly, the signboard "Thien Ton Phat Quang" was suddenly taken down, replaced with a new one and named "Chua Phat Quang".
A resident who regularly exercises in this area said that this sign has just been renamed, it was not called that before. "This sign is new, it used to be Thien Ton Phat Quang, now it has been changed to Chua Phat Quang," this person said.
It is unclear what the intention behind this name and license plate change is, but many people immediately thought of a similar incident before and thought that this could be a "cicada shedding its shell" trick.
Most Venerable Thich Thien Thuan, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee, Head of the Propagation Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, shared with the press: "Most Venerable Thich Chan Quang is not a dignitary participating in administrative organizations at all levels in the church. Up to now, Most Venerable Thich Chan Quang has never participated in administrative activities at all levels of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. However, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province still manages Most Venerable Thich Chan Quang in an administrative capacity, managing monks and nuns in the whole province according to regulations".
In another development, regarding the learning process and qualifications of this Venerable, the Ministry of Education and Training has requested relevant units and educational institutions to report. The Ministry of Education and Training also simultaneously reviewed, inspected, verified and coordinated the verification to clarify information and evidence in the spirit and principles of thoroughness, caution, and compliance with legal regulations.
Regarding this, the Ministry of Home Affairs has focused on directing and implementing a number of tasks:
The Ministry said it has assigned the Government Committee for Religious Affairs to send a document to and work directly with the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Council to investigate, verify, and clarify cases of dignitaries, officials, and monks who have made statements and preached on social networking sites that are not in accordance with the teachings, canon laws, cultural traditions of Buddhism, and the history of the Vietnamese people, and at the same time propose strict handling of Buddhist dignitaries, officials, and monks who violate one of the above contents.
As a result, the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has disciplined a number of dignitaries and monks who violated religious laws and requested the removal of all sermons with content that caused confusion in public opinion...
The Ministry also said that it has coordinated with a number of relevant ministries and branches to establish 3 surprise inspection teams to inspect the implementation of legal regulations on beliefs and religions for a number of religious dignitaries, officials, and monks in the provinces of Quang Ninh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Ho Chi Minh City. The Ministry of Home Affairs will report and propose the results of the inspection to the Prime Minister.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Home Affairs will advise the Government to submit to the National Assembly amendments to the Law on Belief and Religion and issue a Decree regulating administrative sanctions for violations in the field of belief and religion in order to perfect the law on belief and religion, contributing to strengthening state management of belief and religion; promote thematic inspections and examinations, surprise inspections and examinations of compliance with the provisions of the law on belief and religion by People's Committees at all levels, religious dignitaries, officials, and monks.
Thereby detecting, correcting and promptly handling organizations and individuals violating the law on belief, religion and laws related to belief and religion.
