Venerable Thich Chan Quang is a famous lecturer who has published more than 2,000 lectures on CDs, VCDs, DVDs with subtitles in many languages, as well as books such as: Treatise on Cause and Effect, Karma and Results, Moral Psychology, Zen Textbook, Dharma Textbook, Sutra (Nikaya, Phap Hoa, Phap Owl, Sutra of Vajrayana, Bat Nha), the comic series Snow Mountain Peak tells the life of the Buddha, the painting of Cause and Effect... However, Venerable Thich Chan Quang has also created many controversies so far due to many conflicting sermon contents.

Recently, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (Ministry of Home Affairs) has issued a written request to the Religious Affairs Committee of the Department of Home Affairs of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to verify, review and verify the statements and lectures of Venerable Thich Chan Quang, which are being reflected by the public.

The document of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs states that if the statements of Venerable Thich Chan Quang in some viral clips on social networks are not in accordance with the teachings, canons, cultural traditions of Buddhism and the history of the Vietnamese nation; amending the forbidden precepts in the Buddhist Three Jewels refuge testimony... will have to be dealt with strictly.

Most of the debates are directed towards the explanations of cause and effect that Venerable Thich Chan Quang has preached on many topics, in many different auditory ashrams. It can be a statement about the bad "fruits" of karaoke, youth traveling, offerings...

For example, Venerable Thich Chan Quang said that "the hammock is the place where all the merits of sentient beings are destroyed". According to the explanation, because when lying in a hammock, especially near the road, everyone passing on the road that day was kicked by my faceless feet, "so how many blessings I poured into the river were clean".

Talking about being hungry but not even able to speak, Venerable Thich Chan Quang explained that it was because when he was alive, he used his voice to slander, slander the classics, and sing karaoke.

"Whoever sings a lot of karaoke, that person is at risk of dying as a dumb ghost", Venerable Thich Chan Quang affirmed.

Many people, after watching the statements of Venerable Thich Chan Quang, expressed their disagreement. However, there are also those who think that many social media accounts have cut and pasted Thich Chan Quang's words and statements in some lectures and then posted them online, for other purposes but not in the context of the conversation that misunderstood the community, affecting the image of the monk.

Previously, Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice Chairman, General Secretary of the Governing Council of the Buddhist Church of Vietnam informed: The statements of Venerable Thich Chan Quang in a number of clips reflected by the public, the Buddhist Church of Vietnam has assigned the Central Dharma Committee and Office II to hold a working session on April 19 to review, correcting the contents of induction according to the law of cause and effect in Buddhist teachings that confuse society.

It is known that the Buddhist Church of Vietnam confirmed that Venerable Thich Chan Quang is only the abbot of the Buddha Quang Pagoda under the management of the Governing Board of the Buddhist Church of Vietnam in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. This abbot no longer participates in the departments of the Central Church as well as the local Administrative Board of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

Also related to offensive preaching, on June 6, 2024, the Second Office of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Church of Vietnam issued a notice on handling measures against Venerable Thich Nhuan Duc (Protector Phap communal house, Phu My commune, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) for making statements and lectures that undermine society's trust in Buddhism and the Buddhist Church Vietnamese teachers.

Accordingly, the Church has strictly prohibited Venerable Thich Nhuan Duc from preaching in all forms, especially those who repent at the Protector of the Dharma, and at the same time must repent to the monks and the Board of Directors of the Vietnamese Buddhist Church in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

The Central Committee of the Buddhist Church of Vietnam assigned the Legal Department, the Control Board and the Administrative Board of the Buddhist Church of Vietnam in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to supervise the implementation of discipline against Venerable Thich Nhuan Duc within 1 year.
