Car crash into river kills 7 people: Heartbreaking account from witness

Ms. NTD drove a 7-seat car with license plate 30G-156.XX towards Voi bridge to Nam Dinh city, then unfortunately crashed into the river, killing 7 people on the spot and injuring 2 others. Currently, the incident has had initial conclusions from the authorities.

At around 3:00 p.m. the same day (January 30), at Km153 500 National Highway 21, in Nam Van ward, Nam Dinh city, Nam Dinh province, a traffic accident occurred, killing 7 people and injuring 2 others.

Among them, Ms. NTD (born in 1964, residing in Ba Dinh district, Hanoi) is the driver, Mr. N.D.Ch (born in 1956, is Ms. D's husband), Ms. NNA (born in 1989, is Ms. D's daughter), TNMKh (born in 2017, is Ms. NNA's daughter), NVT (born in 1986, residing in Thanh Oai, Hanoi), Ms. D (born in 1991, Mr. T's wife), and NQM (born in 2023). The two people with minor injuries were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment: Ms. NNQ (born in 1991, Ms. D's daughter); and NND (a 6th grade student in Hanoi).

The initial preliminary cause was determined to be that the 7-seat car with license plate 30G-156.XX driven by Ms. NTD, when reaching the above area, turned to the right, crashed into the road railing and then plunged into the ditch next to the road, without colliding with people or other vehicles.

The two injured people are being treated at the provincial General Hospital and Nam Dinh Children's Hospital. The two injured people were given timely first aid, their health has gradually recovered, and they are now conscious. However, both are still in a state of panic after experiencing the terrible incident. "A child and a woman were taken to the emergency room. The woman was very panicked and could not get any information," said a witness.

So far, 7 deceased people have been brought home to say goodbye at the Provincial General Hospital. The car was also recovered from the ditch. Secretary of the Nam Dinh Provincial Party Committee Dang Khanh Toan visited and encouraged those injured in the traffic accident who are being treated at the Provincial General Hospital, the Nam Dinh Provincial Children's Hospital and their families in the accident.

To support the families of the deceased in the incident to overcome the immediate consequences, the province will support each person 10 million VND; each injured person 5 million VND; the People's Committee of Giao Thuy district and Nam Dinh city will support the family 7 million VND/person, the injured person 5 million VND/person.

According to Dan Viet Newspaper, Mr. Le Van Hung (born in 1998, residing in Group 8, Nam Van Commune, Nam Truc, Nam Dinh) said that at around 3:45 p.m., he heard a loud noise on the street. When Mr. Hung ran out, he discovered a car that had plunged into the river, which was almost completely submerged in water.

"The atmosphere was tense at that time, everyone had to immediately find the fastest rescue plan. I and many people tried to approach, racing against time to rescue the people in the car," Mr. Hung recalled. Many people in the area of the accident immediately jumped into the water in the cold weather to save their families.

"As soon as I discovered the incident, I immediately jumped into the water in the hope of rescuing the people trapped inside. However, at this time, the car doors were all locked, making it impossible for me to open them to approach the people inside the car. Realizing the dire situation, I and some people around me quickly found hammers and hard objects to break the car doors. However, due to the great resistance of the water, breaking the glass or prying open the doors was very difficult," Mr. Hung recounted during the rescue.

While Mr. Hung and everyone approached the car in the water trying to find a way to rescue it, some other people quickly ran to find a cable and hooked it tightly to the car, at the same time signaling for a passing truck to help. The truck driver immediately stopped and coordinated with everyone to pull the crashed car to shore. Everyone raced against time, hoping to rescue the trapped people.
