In the past few hours, netizens were shocked to see a 9-year-old girl being held hostage by a man. According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Ngu - Head of the Criminal Police Department of Bac Ninh Provincial Police, at around 4:00 a.m. on March 27, Phan Van Tuan rode a motorbike into the house of Tran Thi. T (born in 2016, Phuong Mao Ward), holding 2 knives (meat knives) in his hands and restraining the child on the 2nd floor.
"Through initial verification, the subject was identified as Phan Van Tuan (born May 6, 1983, in Hai Phong), with 3 previous convictions. After the arrest, we quickly tested and determined that the subject used banned substances," informed Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Ngu.
By noon on March 27, Ms. Pham Tra My (29 years old, T.'s biological mother) was at her ex-husband's house to comfort and reassure her daughter. Ms. My said that she and her husband had divorced and each had their own life. She currently lives with her second husband in Ninh Binh. Since she was a child, T. has lived with her grandparents. Although she did not have a complete family, T. grew up to be obedient, polite, and the pride of the whole family. However, Ms. My never thought that one day her little daughter would have to go through such a terrifying scene.
Ms. My said that the night before, she couldn't sleep, feeling uneasy for no apparent reason. When she woke up in the morning, she intended to call her ex-husband's parents' house via Messenger to ask about them. However, before she could call, she saw the image of her daughter being held hostage posted all over social media.
"I could only watch for a few seconds and then turned off my phone. My limbs went limp and I sat down on the ground. My whole body was shaking, my heart was beating like crazy, my mind was blank. I screamed and cried, all I could do was pray to God and Buddha for my child to be safe...", My recounted while crying.
Immediately after that, Ms. My called her relatives but could not reach them. Feeling bad, she took a taxi from Ninh Binh to Bac Ninh. At 8 am, she arrived at her ex-husband's house.
Seeing her daughter was safely rescued by the Bac Ninh Provincial Police after life-and-death moments, Ms. My rushed to hug her daughter, comforting her through sobs: "Don't be afraid, mom is here...".
At that moment, My and her daughter both burst into tears. Witnessing this scene, no one in the family could hold back their emotions, tears rolling down their faces.
Recalling the incident, Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh (T.'s aunt) is still in shock. She said that after her parents divorced, T. lived with her grandparents and her husband since she was little. Therefore, she always considered her niece as her own child.
At 4am on March 27, while she and two employees were baking bread in front of the door, a man suddenly drove his motorbike straight into the house. In his hands were two shiny knives, his eyes were blank. Then, the man sat down on a chair and spoke nonsense, his appearance unusual. "He told me to sit here for a while, I'll leave in the morning," she said.
Sensing something was wrong, Ms. Oanh and two employees tried to persuade him to leave so the family could close the door and rest, but to no avail. He even rushed straight to the second floor and took T. hostage. "My heart skipped a beat and I was so scared, but I tried to stay calm. I ran outside, my hands shaking as I dialed the number to call the police," Ms. Oanh said.
After that, Ms. Oanh tried to convince the man: "Please, spare her, she is still young, just like your daughter. I will give you money to go wherever you want, no one in my family will do anything to you...". Remembering what the man said about wanting a motorbike and money, Ms. Oanh quickly opened the cabinet, grabbed a handful of money and gave it to him. However, the kidnapper growled: "I don't need money". After more than 4 hours of negotiation and struggle, with intelligence and bravery, Bac Ninh Provincial Police rescued the girl safely and arrested Phan Van Tuan.
