In recent days, social networks have been abuzz with a video recording a man walking on Truong Tien Bridge (Hue City) but saying bad things, "badmouthing" women in Hue and Quang Tri.
The incident quickly attracted public attention, creating a strong wave of outrage because of its negative content, regional discrimination, and going against good customs.
According to the content of the clip that was circulated, the man was walking on Truong Tien Bridge in Hue while continuously making negative statements, advising men not to marry women from Hue or Quang Tri. During the conversation, the male TikToker also used many sarcastic words and had a contemptuous attitude towards women from this region.
Not only that, the man's tone and expression made viewers feel uncomfortable because it clearly showed an intentional attempt to shock. Many viewers commented that this was a staged content with the purpose of "attracting views and likes" on the TikTok platform.
Immediately after being posted, the clip quickly received hundreds of thousands of views and shares. However, it was accompanied by a wave of fierce criticism from the online community. Many people believe that making fun of women from a region is an uncultured act, not only insulting the honor of women in Hue and Quang Tri but also deepening gender stereotypes in society.
On many forums, a series of comments expressed dissatisfaction with the male TikToker's statement. Many opinions said that using the image of Truong Tien Bridge to film the clip had content that offended even local people.
One account commented: "You can't use women from a region to satirize like that. This is not a joke but a serious insult." Some others frankly called on the authorities to handle it seriously, and boycott this man's TikTok channel to avoid setting a bad precedent.
Notably, in response to the strong backlash, the man in the clip posted another "correction" video, asserting that he was only joking and had no intention of offending. He also said that the online community was "too harsh" and did not know how to distinguish between truth and falsehood. He also revealed that he was originally from Hue and Quang Tri, so there was no reason to defame women from these two localities.
However, this explanation did not calm public opinion. On the contrary, the online community became even more indignant because the man did not show any receptiveness, but continued to use many words to criticize others.
Given the seriousness of the impact, on September 15, the leader of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City confirmed that he had sent a document to the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, requesting coordination in verifying and handling this case. Because through initial verification, the man in the video was identified as TTÄ., a TikToker living in Ho Chi Minh City, owning a TikTok channel with more than 80,000 followers and a total of over 1.2 million views.
The Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City affirmed that statements that are disparaging to women, discriminating against regions and using vulgar language are acts that go against cultural norms and affect the image of the people and the ancient capital. Therefore, the authorities need to take strict measures to deter and prevent the use of social networks to spread offensive content.
