Cyanide poisoning in Dong Nai: 4 victims, 5 funerals, creepy plan revealed

The cyanide case in Dong Nai caused a stir when Nguyen Thi Hong Bich used poison on her own relatives, causing many victims to die tragically, causing shock and anxiety in public opinion nationwide.

The case involving the act of poisoning and illegal storage, transportation and use of cyanide in Vinh Thanh commune (now Phuoc An commune), Dong Nai province, has shocked public opinion due to the sophisticated methods and the dangerous level of the perpetrator. The Investigation Police Agency of Dong Nai province has just completed its conclusion, proposing to prosecute Nguyen Thi Hong Bich (39 years old, residing in Phuoc An commune) for two acts: causing serious consequences and illegal use of toxic substances.

Nguyen Thi Hong Bich lives with her husband Nguyen Thoai Thanh The and two children in a large family, earning a living by selling rice. Her husband's debt has made the family conflict increasingly tense. In the deadlock, Bich went online to find a solution and decided to buy cyanide for 1 million VND, initially only to harm herself. Bich hid the poison in the bedroom bathroom.

However, over time, family conflicts increased, and Bich conceived the idea of using cyanide to harm her relatives. From February 2023 to May 2024, Bich confessed to harming three family members, including her husband and two grandchildren.

The first target was Bich's husband, Mr. NTTT. Taking advantage of the fact that he had to take medication to treat gout, stomach pain and blood pressure, Bich secretly put cyanide in the pills. From the beginning of 2023, Mr. T. showed symptoms of paralysis of the limbs, abnormal blood pressure and was hospitalized many times. On October 18, 2023, Mr. T. passed away, the initial cause was said to be medical.

Then, on January 2, 2024, NKD, Bich's younger sister's daughter, passed away just a few hours after drinking water given by Bich. At the end of May 2024, the tragedy repeated itself with NHN, 12 years old, Bich's older brother's son, who also passed away after drinking water containing cyanide.

The fourth victim was NHBT, 18 years old, daughter of Bich's sister-in-law. After an argument about money, Bich had the intention of revenge. When T. saw acne on her face, Bich offered to buy acne medicine, but in fact, she replaced the medicine with cyanide. T. believed Bich's words and drank the medicine and immediately passed out. Fortunately, relatives discovered it in time and took her to the emergency room. Tests by the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Public Health determined that T.'s gastric juice contained 21.0 mg/L of Cyanide.

Crime scene investigation and sample examination confirmed traces of cyanide. Bich confessed to burying a plastic bottle containing white crystals in a cemetery near her home, which was determined to be potassium cyanide – an extremely toxic substance.

Investigators determined that Bich had a sophisticated method: choosing a time when the victim was alone, mixing cyanide into the medicine or drink, erasing traces, destroying evidence and misleading relatives. This behavior was repeated many times over a long period of time, showing the defendant's careful calculation and dangerousness.

Regarding the passing of Bich's father, Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (69 years old) and daughter Bich NHM (15 years old), the investigation agency does not have enough evidence to determine that Bich caused the harm with cyanide.

Currently, Dong Nai prosecution agency is completing procedures to bring Nguyen Thi Hong Bich to trial as soon as possible. The trial results will be a strong warning, emphasizing the serious consequences of using toxic substances to resolve personal and family conflicts.
