On March 14, news from the People's Committee of Muong Lat district, Thanh Hoa province said that a couple had just passed away due to eating poisonous mushrooms picked in the forest. According to initial information, on the morning of March 3, Mr. LVT (born in 1968) and his wife, Ms. HTH (born in 1971, residing in Co Cai village, Trung Ly commune, Muong Lat district) went into the forest to cut banana trees to feed the pigs.

Determining that the victims had eaten poisonous mushrooms and suffered severe poisoning, Muong Lat District General Hospital transferred Mr. T. and Mrs. H. to Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital for treatment. On March 15, Mr. Ngan Van Lon, Chairman of the People's Committee of Trung Ly commune, Muong Lat district, confirmed the information and said that Thai people have the habit of picking mushrooms in the forest to cook soup.
Through the tragic death of a couple in Co Cai village due to eating poisonous mushrooms, the government and functional agencies of the commune will increase propaganda and guidance for people to know and distinguish between poisonous mushrooms growing wild in the forest, to avoid unfortunate consequences.
Previously, at noon on March 13, Bac Kan Provincial General Hospital also received a patient with food poisoning suspected of eating wild mushrooms. According to a report from Ngan Son District Medical Center, at around 11:00 a.m. on March 12, patient LTK, 57 years old (residing in Na Keo village, Thuong Quan commune) cooked mushroom soup picked from the forest to eat.

At 4:00 p.m. on March 13, the patient was transferred to the Anti-Poison Center - Bach Mai Hospital for treatment and performed tests to determine the cause of food poisoning according to regulations.
According to BSCKI. Sam Tu The, Deputy Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning, food poisoning with natural factors can cause rapid death if not treated promptly. To be safe, people should not eat wild mushrooms. When there are signs of poisoning after eating food suspected of containing natural toxins, the poisoned person must be quickly taken to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment and emergency care.

Dr. Bui Thi Tra Vi - Department of Nutrition & Dietetics - Hanoi Medical University Hospital said that poisonous mushrooms in nature often have colorful, eye-catching colors, with caps, plates, stems that are swollen and bulbous, or mushrooms with light pink spores, red caps with white scales, and light-emitting mycelium.
Some mushroom species may have toxin levels that vary with the season, during growth (young or mature mushrooms), and in different soil and soil environments. Therefore, there may be cases where eating the same mushroom species can sometimes cause poisoning, and sometimes not. In addition, poisonous mushrooms often have a pungent smell and are milky...
However, there are many exceptions, there are poisonous mushrooms that have the same color and shape as normal mushrooms. Therefore, it is difficult to distinguish safe mushrooms from poisonous mushrooms without enough experience and knowledge. Therefore, according to Dr. Tra Vi, it is best to consider all mushrooms in the forest as poisonous and should not be eaten.
