Nghe An: arrest knife-wielding suspect for bank robbery after two days on the run

Regarding the robbery that took place at the transaction office of a bank with a branch in Cua Lo town (Nghe An province), on the evening of February 3, a branch leader of this bank confirmed that the suspect responsible for the robbery was arrested by the police.

On the evening of February 3, Mr. Doan Tien Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo town, Nghe An confirmed that in the afternoon of the same day, the police of Vinh city and professional police units of Nghe An province arrested the suspect who committed the robbery at Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade - VietinBank Cua Lo branch, Binh Minh transaction office, Thu Thuy ward, Cua Lo town.

The suspect was identified as D.K.L. (B.N. 1986, Nghi Lien Commune, Vinh City).

Police are taking statements from suspects, fighting to expand the case.

As reported, around 4:12 p.m. on Feb. 1, a subject wearing a helmet, face covering, knife in one hand, and a suspected explosive material in the other entered the transaction room of Cua Lo branch bank and threatened with explosives and shouted at everyone to stand still.

At this time, there were about 20 people including employees and customers present in the bank.

So frightened that everyone fled. The subject then jumped over the desk asking the bank employee for the money. When he took the money from the drawer, the man quickly went to get the motorbike and fled.

Receiving the information, the police of Cua Lo town coordinated with professional departments (Police of Nghe An province), police of districts and towns to organize arrest forces.

After 2 days of arrest, on the afternoon of February 3, the authorities successfully arrested the subject.

It is expected that on February 5, the People's Committee of Cua Lo town will organize the commendation of individuals and collectives of the specialized panel.

There have been several bank robberies recently, but the suspects were quickly apprehended.

On January 20, 2024, Tran Dong L, 34, and Dang Van D, 25, were arrested after an unsuccessful day of robbing money with fake guns at Agribank in the West branch of Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam. Two suspects have been charged with Robbery.

On November 22, 2023, Nguyen Manh C, 25, and Tran Van T, 22, brought guns and knives to a branch of BIDV Bank in Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang. Both were arrested the same day.

In Nghe An, on November 14, 2023, Nguyen Tuan A, 29, was also arrested after just one day of robbery at an Agribank branch in Nghi Huong ward, Cua Lo town. Tuan A was sentenced to 4 years in prison by the People's Court of Nghe An province.

In HCMC, October 24, 2023, Nguyen Ngoc M, 30; Lam Phuc L, 23, and Nguyen Thi Bich T, 22, were arrested after 22 hours of robbing VND3.8 billion at the branch of Saigon Thuong Tin - Sacombank Joint Stock Commercial Bank on Nguyen Van Bua Street, Hoc Mon District.
