After 2 months of expanding the investigation of the Sacombank bank robbery group in Hoc Mon district (HCMC), the police discovered many unexpected details related to the circulation of counterfeit money and other acts.
On December 28, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department said that they had investigated new details when fighting a gang that used weapons and self-made explosives to rob Saigon Thuong Tin Bank - Nhi Xuan transaction office (Nguyen Van Bua street, Xuan Thoi Thuong commune, Hoc Mon district) on the morning of October 24.
This group is led by Nguyen Ngoc My (born 1993, from Binh Duong). America's accomplices are Lam Phuc Loi (born 2000, Vinh Long) and Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen (born 2001, Ben Tre). The suspects robbed 3.8 billion VND and the authorities recovered most of the assets after the group was caught.
Ho Chi Minh City police determined that America received 1.5 billion VND, Loi received 1.3 billion VND and Tuyen received 1 billion VND. In early November, the Police Investigation Agency served the decisions to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and execute temporary arrest warrants for the 3 subjects mentioned above for the crime of "Robbery".
As Vietnamnet previously reported, the group met each other at the "insolvent people who want to take risks" association on Facebook. Because they didn't have a stable career and needed money to pay off debt and spend money, My, Loi and Tuyen came together to plan a bank robbery.
Initially, they targeted a bank in Binh Duong but could not do so because this target was in a densely populated area, with many guards and difficult escape routes. After careful research, they chose the Sacombank branch on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City.
Just 10 p.m. after the bank robbery, Ho Chi Minh City Police forces searched and arrested three subjects in different places, recovering all the robbed money and related exhibits.
Police also confiscated an amount of cash in denominations of 200,000 VND and 500,000 VND. Through examination, the authorities concluded that this was counterfeit money. The American group claimed to use this money to buy coffee and soft drinks in Tan Thanh commune, Go Cong district (Tien Giang).
At the same time, the subjects also brought fake money to shop in Tay Ninh on October 12 and October 13. The purpose is for the seller to give real money back. In addition, the police also confiscated evidence such as motorbikes, documents... under the name of another individual. To clarify, the police are searching and inviting to work with these people to expand the investigation.
Regarding the bank robbery in Da Nang City that left a security guard unable to survive, today (December 28), the People's Court of Da Nang City held a mobile trial of 2 defendants Nguyen Manh Cuong (25 years old, residing in the district). Que Son, Quang Nam province) and Tran Van Tri (22 years old, residing in Hoa Vang district, Da Nang).
At trial, the defendants admitted the criminal behavior as stated in the indictment. Cuong was the mastermind and leader, he said he came from his hometown to Da Nang to find a job but couldn't find one. Previously, the defendant worked in Japan and then returned to work as a job broker and labor exporter, but recently fell into unemployment.
The defendant participated in the online gambling game, lost 500 million VND and sold a Honda SH motorbike for 65 million VND and spent it all. Because he needed money, Cuong went to group pages on the social network Facebook to learn how to rob banks. From here, Cuong met Tri and the two planned and bought weapons for the robbery.
Defendant Tri also had a bad reputation online, so he owed a lot of money and was demanded by creditors. During the discussion to rob property, Tri proposed to rob a villa located on the Han River, but Cuong did not agree, but only wanted to rob a bank.
At the end of the trial, the Trial Council announced a summary sentence for the following crimes: causing one person to die; robbery; Buying, selling, storing, and illegally using weapons for defendant Nguyen Manh Cuong is the highest sentence and Tran Van Tri is 30 years in prison.
