Behind the scenes disaster that caused 3 members of HAGL football club to die, people recounted the moment of life and death

The three victims who died in the horrific car accident in Gia Lai were all members of Hoang Anh Gia Lai football club, including assistant coach Duong Minh Ninh, striker Paollo and doctor Tri Dao.

The accident occurred between 2 trucks and 1 car at about 15:00 on August 12, on National Highway 14 in Phu Quang market, Ia Hrú commune, passing through Chu Puh district (Gia Lai province).

Accordingly, after the last match of the 2023 V. League season between Hoàng Anh Gia Lai and Sông Lam Nghệ An at Vinh Stadium (Group B, phase II- V. League 2023), the entire team was rested by the Coaching Board after a long football season. Assistant coach Duong Minh Ninh, striker Paollo and doctor Tri Dao returned to their headquarters and were picked up by the club.

On the way from Dak Lak to Gia Lai, when arriving at Phu Quang market, Ia Hrú commune, Chu Puh district, there was an accident that caused 3 people to die on the spot, the seriously injured driver was taken to the emergency by the authorities.

The deceased victims were all in cars. Footage from the scene showed two trucks traveling in opposite directions confronting each other, sandwiched in the middle of a car that had been completely deformed. Two trucks also sustained head damage.

As someone who was at the scene and helped save the victims, Mr. Tran Viet Vien (resident of Tao Chor village, Ia Hrú commune, Chu Puh district) said that the time of the accident was about 14h on the same day.

"I heard a very loud crash, like an explosion. When I ran out, I saw two trucks sandwiched between them as a car with the logo of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Football Club," Vien said.

Hearing the painful cries for help coming from the car, Mr. Vien and many others found the driver of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club injured, trapped in the car.

The driver, later identified as Nguyen Tu Sinh, 57, of Ia Kring ward, Pleiku city, told Vien there were three more people in the car.

Immediately, Mr. Vien and the people waved two trucks that were passing by, used chains to hook the rear of the two trucks and dump trucks in the accident to pull out to rescue the victims trapped in the cars of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club.

However, only the truck was pulled out. And the dump truck carried a lot of stones, although it pulled off the iron chain, but could not pull it.

"Seeing that we couldn't pull the car out, we called for a farm truck to chain up to the car and pull it out," Vien said.

After pulling the car of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club out of the car, Mr. Vien and many residents used a crowbar to pry the door to get the driver out. At this point, the person in the driver's seat and the two people in the back were dead in the car seat.

"At first, I saw a person in the back seat screaming in pain, but when I pulled the car out, he was dead. It's painful!" he said.

Currently, the authorities are actively investigating and clarifying the cause of the accident.

After learning of the death of members of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club, Doan Nguyen Duc could not hide his emotion.

Bau Duc said: "The incident is so sudden, surely Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club will support the families of the members of the team in distress. This loss is too great for us!"

It is known that assistant coach Duong Minh Ninh was originally a striker of Hoàng Anh Gia Lai. He has worked throughout at Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club from the time Duc took over the team in 2002 until now.

During his work here, Mr. Duong Minh Ninh has undertaken many important tasks in the team such as being an assistant to coach Guilaumme Graechen; member and assistant member of the academy coaching staff; assistant coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan.

He was also chosen as coach of Hoàng Anh Gia Lai when Nguyen Quoc Tuấn resigned after a losing streak in the 2021 season. And when electing Duc to invite coach Kiatisuk to Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Mr. Duong Minh Ninh assumed the position of assistant coach until now.

The 2nd victim is striker Paollo Madeira Oliveira born in 1996, 1m89 tall and Portuguese nationality. Before playing for Hoang Anh Gia Lai, this striker played for Hong Linh Ha Tinh, appeared in 23 matches in V.League and scored 8 goals, making an important contribution to Hong Linh Ha Tinh's successful relegation.

After the 2022 season, this born player has decided to join Hoàng Anh Gia Lai in the 2023 season. Although Paollo has just "wet feet" coming to the Nui Street team, Paollo has also managed to leave quite bold marks in Hoang Anh Gia Lai's matches.
