Dong Nai: Suspect arrested for murdering grocery store owner in Ho Chi Minh City, shocking motive revealed

Recently, a particularly serious robbery case occurred in Dong Nai province, causing insecurity in the community. Accordingly, the police investigation decided to arrest the masked suspect who brutally attacked the owner of a grocery store for property.

In the early morning of June 20, 2025, Dong Nai Provincial Police officially informed about the quick arrest of Nguyen Minh Phuc (born in 1995, from Can Tho, temporarily residing in Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai), the suspect who caused the murder and robbery at Tan Hai grocery store, Dat Moi hamlet, Long Phuoc commune, Long Thanh district on the afternoon of June 19, 2025. The achievement of solving the case in just 5 hours demonstrated the determination and professionalism of the provincial police force.

At around 3:34 p.m. on June 19, 2025, a particularly serious case occurred at Tan Hai grocery store, located in Dat Moi hamlet, Long Phuoc commune, Long Thanh district. The victim was identified as Ms. LTTC (born in 1966), owner of Tan Hai grocery store. According to initial information from the investigation agency, Ms. C. was controlled by the subject using a knife to rob her property, then brutally murdered.

The incident was revealed through security camera footage from the grocery store. A young man wearing a black jacket, a tight mask, a helmet, and driving a motorbike with a Ho Chi Minh City license plate approached the grocery store located on Highway 51, passing through Long Phuoc Commune. The subject entered the store, pretending to be a customer to investigate the situation.

At the time this man appeared, the LTTC grocery store was only watched by the owner. After observing and realizing that there was no one else, the young man suddenly pulled out a knife and quickly restrained the owner in order to rob her. According to the police, a fierce struggle broke out between the suspect and the victim. Next, the robber dragged the owner to the area behind the house, where he brutally murdered the owner of the grocery store to cover up the evidence and easily escape.

After committing the crime, the suspect quickly left the scene, driving a motorbike to escape in the direction of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, leaving behind shock and grief for local people.

Immediately after receiving the news of the particularly serious case, Major General Nguyen Duc Hai, Director of Dong Nai Provincial Police, promptly arrived at the scene to directly direct the professional forces of Dong Nai Provincial Police to quickly deploy investigation measures, concentrate all forces and means to investigate, determined to arrest the perpetrator as soon as possible.

With a high sense of responsibility and determination not to let crime run rampant, the Provincial Police Director has directed professional units to apply synchronous professional measures, from meticulously examining the scene, collecting traces and witness statements, to checking suspects and zoning off the suspect's hiding area.

With the close direction of the Provincial Police Department and the smooth and effective coordination between professional units, along with the support from Ho Chi Minh City Police, the police force has launched a large-scale "hot" investigation. After just over 5 hours since the incident occurred, applying synchronous and sharp professional measures, Dong Nai Provincial Police closely coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City Police and successfully arrested Nguyen Minh Phuc when he was trying to hide in Cau Ong Lanh Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

The arrest of the suspect in record time demonstrated the high level of professionalism, tireless fighting spirit and effective coordination of the Dong Nai Provincial Police and Ho Chi Minh City Police. This feat not only helped the victim’s family to somewhat ease the pain of loss but also contributed to strengthening people’s trust in the strictness of the law and the ability of the police force to protect social order and safety.

Currently, Dong Nai Provincial Police are continuing to conduct in-depth investigations to clarify the criminal behavior, motives for the crime as well as fully determine the details related to this particularly serious murder and robbery case. Subject Nguyen Minh Phuc is being detained to serve the investigation and will be strictly handled in accordance with the provisions of Vietnamese law.
