More than 10 p.m., rescuers found Colonel Nguyen Van Son - the other pilot in the Yak-130 plane crash during training this afternoon, in the Ham Ho mountain forest area, Tay Phu commune, Tay Son district, Binh Dinh.
About a kilometer away, at 20:20, Colonel Son's comrade - Colonel Quan was also found. The two pilots were in good health and were not injured. The soldiers then took the two out of the forest more than 10km away, then drove them to the hospital.
According to information from the search force, due to parachuting into the abyss, the two pilots took a long time to climb high to have phone waves. Colonel Quan called the unit at 16:30, then the machine ran out of battery. And Colonel Son reported the news at 18:45, that is, seven and a half hours after the accident.
Lieutenant General Trinh Dinh Thach, Political Commissar of Military Region 5, said that through positioning, the functional forces verified the location of the two pilots. The 2nd Division of the 5th Military Region set up 15 search teams with more than 100 soldiers, along with forces of the district and province. Each team is guided by rangers. However, this area is hilly and mountainous, heavy rain and dark weather make it difficult to reach them, taking many hours.
On the morning of November 7, rescue units will focus on searching for the Yak-130 aircraft. With the position of two parachute pilots, Colonel Hoang Trung Dung, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 2nd Division, said that the plane crashed in Kong Chro district, Gia Lai, bordering Binh Dinh. The Yak-130 has been in service with the 940th Air Force Regiment (belonging to the Air Force Officer School, Air Defense Corps) since 2021. This is a Russian-made (two-seat) trainer aircraft. The aircraft can operate in combat with medium-range reconnaissance and strike capabilities.
In the morning of the same day, Colonel Son, the regimental commander and Colonel Quan, the chief flight officer, flew the Yak-130 to participate in training at Phu Cat airport - where the 940th Regiment used as a base and training. They perform long-distance, air-to-air, and cloud-piercing flights in complex meteorological conditions.
After nearly 40 minutes in the air, nearly 11 a.m., at the end of the landing preparation exercise, they discovered that the plane could not be released, and at the same time took emergency measures to handle the situation, but were unsuccessful. The pilot notified the commander and was allowed to parachute in the area of TB2 Shooting Range, Tay Son district.
According to Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, in heavy rain and strong wind, we have found 2 pilots. "Comrades are healthy and safe. However, during the skydiving, it also more or less affects the health of the pilots. The two pilots will be treated at Military Hospital 13 until they recover," said Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son.
On the morning of 6-11, the 940th Air Regiment, Air Force Officer School, Air Defense Corps - Air Force organized a day training flight at Phu Cat airport, with Yak-130 aircraft (number 210 D), flight post 208, long-distance - airspace - through clouds in complex meteorological conditions, led by Colonel Nguyen Van Son, Regiment Commander, front cabin flight and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Quan, Flight Commander, rear cabin flight. This is the third flight, the second flight of the front cabin pilot in the flight board of the day. The plane took off at 9:55 a.m., until 10:38 a.m. at the end of the landing, the pilot reported that the plane did not take off, and at the same time took measures to handle the emergency landing situation, but it was still unsuccessful. The pilot reported to the flight commander and was allowed to parachute. The two pilots parachuted at 10:51 a.m. at the TB2 shooting range, Tay Son district, Binh Dinh province. |
Earlier, a source from the 2nd Division, Military Region V, also said that from the afternoon of November 6, in addition to searching for the pilot, this unit sent a force of about 50 officers and soldiers to search for the wreckage of the plane in a suspicious area in Kong Chro district.
A source from the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command also said that it was sending forces to support the search for the missing plane in the area.
According to the source, the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command is deploying forces to search for the location of the crashed plane in 2 directions since last night.
Specifically, in the area of Kong Chro district, the Provincial Military Command deployed a force of about 70 people (including local militia) to coordinate the search with the 2nd Division, Military Region V. In Phu Thien district, an equivalent force is also coordinating with dozens of officers and soldiers of the 940th Air Force Regiment to participate in the search.
