Regarding the incident of a Mercedes car plunging into the sea in Nha Trang, according to press information, the Traffic Police Department of Nha Trang City Police, Khanh Hoa Province has transferred the case file to the Investigation Police Department of Nha Trang City Police for handling and investigation according to authority.
It is known that on the evening of January 14, a representative of the Traffic Police - Order Team of Nha Trang City Police confirmed that the driver of the Mercedes with Ho Chi Minh City license plate that crashed into Nha Trang beach has come to present himself today. The young man is from Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa Province.
Authorities have not released the identity of the male driver of the Mercedes that drove the four girls into the sea. The Mercedes was rented by the young man who was traveling from Ninh Thuan province to Nha Trang.
Immediately after the incident, a security camera footage recording the moment the car was speeding and plunging into the sea was also shared on social media. According to the footage, at around 0:00 on January 13, the driver was driving at high speed on Dien Bien Phu Street (Vinh Hoa Ward, Nha Trang City) and drove straight through Pham Van Dong Street and plunged into the sea.
Fortunately, there was no concrete railing in this area, so when the 5 people on the car fell into the sea, the car system opened the door to help the victims escape. Among them, the identities of the 4 girls are: LNM (24 years old, living in Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa Province), PTND, LTTN and NHTT (all living in Ninh Thuan Province).
Immediately after that, the young man driving the car left the scene of the acciden.t. 4 girls, including 3 from Ninh Thuan and LNM (born in 2001, residing in Cam Ranh City) suffered a right shoulder injury and were taken to the emergency room. The authorities tested M. for alcohol and the result was negative.
According to the Traffic Safety Committee of Khanh Hoa province, the cause of the acciden.t was initially determined to be the driver's inattention. The owner of the Mercedes is NPTN (residing in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City).
On the other hand, the issue of how much damage the luxury Mercedes car that fell into the sea in Nha Trang will face is also a topic of interest to the online community. When a car is submerged in salt water like the recent incident of a luxury Mercedes car falling into the sea in Nha Trang, it will cause serious damage to the electrical system and interior, especially in situations where the car's engine is running.
Although there were no casualties, the Mercedes-Benz was likely significantly damaged when it was rescued. So how is handling and repairing a car submerged in seawater different from fresh water?
Mr. Nguyen Van Ha, Director of HZ Auto Service Center (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) shared: "In general, water is a dangerous enemy for cars because it can damage car parts such as ball bearings, bushings under the car, affecting the starter, generator, fan blades, sensors and especially the electrical system. If water floods through the hood, flows into the engine through the air intake, it can also cause engine damage (hydro-lock), and water flowing inside will damage the control components and interior of the car."
This director said that flooded vehicles in general and vehicles submerged in seawater in particular have the same treatment and repair process. The repair time will depend on the specific flooding condition of each vehicle. Normally, the technical team will disassemble and clean the air intake components, check the throttle, spark plugs, and replace the air filter.
The drive axle oil and the transmission oil must also be replaced because the axle and transmission parts have vent valves that are susceptible to water intrusion. If water gets into the engine, the engine oil must also be replaced. Electrical components, sensors, and connectors that are soaked in water must be removed, dried, and cleaned.
However, a car flooded with seawater is much more dangerous than a car flooded with fresh water. Because seawater contains salt, it is highly corrosive, so when the car's electronic system comes into contact with seawater, it can easily cause major damage.
For cars flooded with fresh water, after cleaning, drying and properly maintaining the electronic parts, they can be used for a long time. While cars flooded with sea water, even after taking the same steps as cars flooded with fresh water, the car's parts will be degraded and much worse.
"In general, because cars flooded with seawater will require more parts to be replaced than cars flooded with fresh water, the cost of treatment and repair will be significantly higher," Mr. Ha added.
