According to initial information, at 8:50 am on the same day, passenger boat number DN 1228 piloted by captain Nguyen Truong Chinh (28 years old, living in Long Binh Tan ward, Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province) was carrying passengers. 12 people from Phuoc Long Pagoda (also known as Chau Doc 3) on Ba Sang Island (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) to Xua Wharf in Long Binh Tan Ward (Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai).

When the boat had just moved about 200m from Phuoc Long pagoda wharf, it collided with the container barge VL 15108, driven by Captain Tran Thanh Tam (50 years old, living in Phong Dien district, Can Tho city). going from downstream to Dong Nai Port.

The collision caused boat DN 1228 to capsize, all 12 people on board fell into the river.

Discovering the accident, other boats near the scene quickly responded and brought the victims to the boat.

Upon receiving the information, Dong Nai Provincial Police mobilized the Waterway Police, the Rescue Police, the Bien Hoa City Police to coordinate with the Nha Rong Border Gate Border Station, the Border Guards of Ho Chi Minh City, and the Canh. Initially, working with the police, the driver of the passenger boat DN 1228 Nguyen Truong Chinh confessed that while taking guests from Phuoc Long pagoda to Xua wharf, he collided with a barge, causing the boat to capsize. Particularly, the NTH victim was caught in the area containing the life jacket and hugged the iron pole on the boat, so he could not be saved.

The captain of the barge VL 15108 Tran Thanh Tam said that while driving the barge towards Dong Nai port, the boat DN 1228 ran across the nose of the barge, so a collision caused the boat to capsize. Captain Tam backed the barge out of the above area and helped save people.
